me: hey - i'm noticing another major issue left over from the gemcutter migration
and - any news on the other
??
hi ;-)
10:07
i'd really like to help fix this too.
if we can coordinate it
i've noticed that some older gems were never sync'd
cfp:~ > sudo gem install openobject
ERROR: could not find gem openobject locally or in a repository
this is from 2008
10:08
http://rubyforge.org/frs/?group_id=1024&release_id=25744
but apparently never went across
10:09
Nick: hi
well just push it
10:10
me: that isn't the issue
the issue is that it's in the codeforpeople gems - some of which made it - some of which didn't
i'm sure this has happened to others as well
how do we know which projects have been orphaned and which have not been?
10:11
Nick: orphaned how? as in, didn't make the migration?
me: yes
all the rest of mine made it
just not this one
but it's been there since 2008
Nick: not really sure. i imported everything as far as i knew
me: 2006 actually
right - but this is the 3rd time i've found this to NOT be true
how many others are there?
it's a big deal
no on has anyway of knowing
10:12
no one...
and, of course, all the ones that were sync'd now cannot be pushed
Nick: why can't they be pushed?
me: you explained it to me last time
you said it would work once - and then never again
Nick: AHhhh
me: which is what i've seen
10:13
so basically i have about 90 libraries which are hosed
and i'm sure i'm not alone
Nick: ok. we've solved harder problems than this
me: keep in mind that, before the move, codeforpeople was the 5th or so most downloaded project on rubyforge....
Nick: can we get the whole thing listed out on help.rubygems.org and we'll nail it down
me: so it affects quite a few people
10:14
but no errors are ever reported/known....
which is, in itself, a major issue
eg - no one knows what's ok or not
Nick: i feel that by now, we would have heard a clamoring for it, but it's clearly an issue we need to fix anyway
10:15
me: gotta run - but i think i'll post to the general list as this is a major issue
there isn't a clamouring because it 'succeeds' but wrong
Nick: Yeah, please.
me: eg - you just install an old version...
so no one notices
