1979, WISCONSIN: As Richmond's skies remain clear and unstrange, Milwaukee reports a beautiful summer shower of schadenfreude. It makes a kind of music as it falls, like the sound of a faraway oboe. It covers the whole town, twinkling on car windshields, tapping out messages on tin roofs, and collecting in wells and rain barrels. Some of this collected schadenfreude will later be used as the signature ingredient in the beer known as "Milwaukee's Best."ⁱ
