For the most recent nodejs version of Node.js (0.10.22) use the following

wget http://nodejs.org/dist/v0.10.17/node-v0.10.22.tar.gz
tar -zxf node-v0.10.22.tar.gz
cd node-v0.10.22
./configure
make
sudo make install

Git

Install sudo apt-get install git-core

Configure https://help.github.com/articles/set-up-git

OS updates

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
