Sign in and purchase the game for $19.99

Installing PortingKit


Click this
Open the PortingKit.dmg file when it finishes downloading
Drag the Porting Kit.app file onto the Applications folder in the window that opens
Wait until the file is fully copied, close the menu that opened, and you can delete the PortingKit.dmg file
Open Finder, click "Applications" in the left sidebar, and look for the Porting Kit item
Click "Open" (you only need to do this the first time)
Click through the installation process (yes, agree, continue, continue, etc.)

Installing Game


Copy and paste this into your browser address bar, then press enter: pkid://385

If asked to choose an application, select "Porting Kit" and "Always use this application"


Click continue, yes, next, install, etc. to get through the prompts
After the install is completed, click the play icon next to "Age of Empires 2 HD" in the left sidebar.
After Steam has finished updating (it updates often!) you can sign in.
Once signed in, go to your Steam Library tab and go to Age of Empires II in the left sidebar.
Click "Install", then next, continue, finish, etc. to get through the prompts
Once the game is finished downloading and installing on Steam, click "Play" to launch the game.
You will see a launcher pop up with 3 wooden boards with no text on the left - click the first one to launch the game.
In the future, you just open Porting Kit to start the game.

Known Issues


When starting a multiplayer game, the loading screen may get stuck - you will hear the game music but still see the loading screen. If this happens, CMD-Tab to move the window to the background, then click to open the window back up.

Updating

In the event of an update, the game will break and you won't be able to see other games.

Right click the game in Steam and select "Properties"
Go to the "Local Files" tab and click "Verify integrity of game files"
Once finished, complete the step where you rename the file again
