Dwarf Fortress Rooms & Industries

This is a list of rooms and industries that you will be building in Dwarf Fortress v42.xx. Use it to help plan your fortress, get some ideas, or figure out what should go in your stockpiles.

Primary Industries

Food

Indoor Storage: Raw plants, Prepared meals Outdoor Storage: Unrotten Corpses, Raw meat, Raw fish (May cause miasma if raw meat spoils)

Optional/Specific Industries

You may want to dedicate an area for these industries, but they are also covered by primary industries and are optional.

Ceramics: Produce Clay at a Kiln.

Fuel Industry: Burn wood into Charcoal, or Lignite and Bituminous Coal into Coke.

Soap Industry: Butcher, Kitchen (or Millstone/Screw Press) and Wood Furnace, Ashery

Textile Industry: Plant fiber, Wool, Silk, Tailer, Loom

Paper Industry: Papyrus OR Cloth Plant (Paper) OR Leather, Calcite/Chalk/Limestone/Marble (Parchment). Workshops vary.

Constructions

  • Peasant Quarters

    Beds, Optional storage container (Cabinets, Coffers, etc)

  • Trade Depot

    Requires 3-wide access to edge of the map. Shift+D to see depot access.

  • Hospital

    • Designated as a zone.

    • Stockpiles are optional if you include storage containers such as cabinets.

    • Items:

      • Soap (Cleaning)
      • Thread (Suturing)
      • Crutches
      • Gypsum Plaster OR splints
    • Buildings:

      • Beds
      • Tables
      • Traction Benches
  • Barracks

    • One of: Bed, Armor Stand, OR Weapon Rack (used to designate the barracks)
    • Multiple beds for squads set to sleep in barracks
    • Cabinets/Chests (to store squad/individual equipment)
    • Archery Targets
    • Ammo Stockpile
  • Dining Room

    • Tables
    • Chairs
  • Tavern

    • Tables, Chairs, Storage containers, Goblets

    • Bedrooms assigned as "Rented Rooms". Does not have to be within the zone.

    • Alcohol Stockpile for the tavern keep

    • Dance floor (an unobstructed rectangluar space)

  • Library

    • Bookcases to store scrolls/books

    • Boxes and Bags to store writing material

    • Tables and chairs

    • Designate scholars/scribes as needed

    • See paper industry

  • Temple

Military Uniforms

Heavily Armored Solider

This is the optimal uniform without using foreign items. It is quite expensive, and is best reserved for adventure mode or your best combat dwarves.

  • Armor: Metal Breastplate, 3x Metal Mail shirts, 6x Cloaks
  • Legs: 2x Trousers, Metal Greaves
  • Head: Metal Helm, 6x Hoods
  • Hands: Metal Gaunlets, Mittens
  • Feet: Socks, Metal High Boots
  • Replace Clothing ON

Armored Soldier

A reasonable suit of armor which might include bone equipment or leather when metal is not available.

  • Armor: Shirt, Breastplate
  • Legs: Trousers, Greaves
  • Head: Helm, Hood
  • Hands: Gauntlets, Mittens
  • Feet: Socks, High Boots
