Subject: Proposal: Testing and Automation Dev Room
Reply-To:
Devroom name: Testing and Automation Dev Room
Description:
This room is about creating better software through a focus on testing and
automation at all layers of the stack. From creating libraries and end-user applications
all the way up to a packaging, distribution and deployment.
Testing and automation is not isolated to a single toolchain, language or platform,
there is much to learn and share regardless of background.
We will host a number of sessions from:
* core developers from testing and automation tools
* power-users using those tools to do interesting things
* groups who have introduced tooling to improve quality
Project URLs:
* Jenkins <https://jenkins-ci.org>
* Selenium <http://seleniumhq.org/>
* Gerrit <https://code.google.com/p/gerrit/>
Preferred Day:
Saturday, as it is the 2 year anniversary of the creation of the Jenkins
project! :)
Why should FOSDEM accept this proposal?:
One of the long standing complaints about open source software has been
around quality. Sometimes it's not a valid criticism, but there is still
plenty of room for the open source community to improve the quality of what
we do without much effort. Some projects such as KDE are
already doing a phenomenal job, just browsing through
<http://build.kde.org> you'll find hundreds of projects running builds and
tests.
I believe this dev room would offer a platform for open source developers
who are already forging the way, such as the folks from KDE, to discuss the
benefits, problems and challenges faced in the quest for quality.
