If you haven't heard me talk about the Mountie, then you don't follow along on Twitter.
What is it? Well, it's NOT a reference to the Canadian Mounted Police, at least not in this reference, and it's NOT any reference to any professional wrestler, EVER.
What it IS, is a real genius little device that mounts additional devices such as iPads and iPhones to your laptop. For a professional nomad like myself, this is a MUST HAVE!
That is a great question. I have purchased a few other mounting devices and ALL have been returned. All except my Mountie. I love it so much that I even bought two.
Having a second screen when working on a laptop, especially working with software development, is HUGE. Context switching is a killer and so is app switching. Being able to quickly glance over at a second screen running a terminal, watcher, chat board, etc ... is amazing!
The Mountie is strong, sturdy and best of all, easily attaches and un-attaches from your laptop and device. This was something that was a HUGE fail with other mounting devices.
It's slender low profile practically makes it seamless when attaching a phone or tablet. The additional device basically appears as a natural extension of your laptop.
But wait, there is more! The Mountie even comes with additional pads so that you are sure to always have the correct fit between devices. Well done engineering team, well done!
Really, you should go out and buy one, like TODAY! And to make this even better, use a coupon code given to me from TenOneDesign! How cool is that!

While this is a GREAT tool for attaching devices, in order to be really awesome you need to also get Duet. Duet is hand down the best software out there for turning your iPhone or iPad into a second screen. Just like adding an additional monitor. It requires that your second device is plugged into your laptop and is lightening fast responsive when moving between screens.
It's only downfall at this time is that it only supports one additional device. It would be great if it supported more then one. It is on their roadmap, so if this is something that interests you, I highly suggest you tell them by voting up this support article.
Well, who I am NOT is a sales representative for TenOneDesign. I am a developer and gadget nut and when I come across a product that really does what it says with little to no disappointment what so ever, I like to tell people about it. I like to tell EVERYONE about it.
And it's just that much more fun when people come up to me in coffee shops and ask, "What is that?"
