Secure sessions with Node.js, Express.js, and NginX as an SSL Proxy
Secure sessions are easy, but not very well documented.
Here's a recipe for secure sessions in Node.js when NginX is used as an SSL proxy:
The desired configuration for using NginX as an SSL proxy is to offload SSL processing
and to put a hardened web server in front of your Node.js application, like:
[NODE.JS APP] <- HTTP -> [NginX] <- HTTPS -> [PUBLIC INTERNET] <-> [CLIENT]
Edit for express 4.X and >: Express no longer uses Connect as its middleware framework, it implements its own now.

Step by step installation of JDK 1.6 in Ubuntu
Install Java JDK 6.0 update 31 on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
Introduction
The first question is why are we installing an old JDK. The answer is that Oracle JDK 6.0 update 31 is the JDK recommended by Cloudera when installing CDH4 (Cloudera Distribution Hadoop v4).
This is an update to an older version of this post. Mainly I have changed the JDK from 1.6.0_26 to 1.6.0_31 as this is the recommended JDK for CDH4 .
Install Java
I have a 64 bit version of Ubuntu 12.04 LTS installed, so the instructions below only apply to this OS.

Sublime Hints of the Day

David's Sublime Hints

Hint 1 - Set default indentation to 2 spaces

A tab size of 2 almost always looks better and can fit more on screen

  • Click on Sublime Text -> Preferences -> Settings - User
  • Alter the file to add "tab_size: 2" and save it

Mine looks like the following:

Setup p4merge as difftool and mergetool on Windows

Setting up p4merge as diff and merge tool on Windows. Tried for Git version 1.8.4.msysgit.0.

Two alternatives are explained: using the command line, and directly editing the config file.

Setting up from the command line

Being the installation path "C:Program Files\Perforce\p4merge.exe", just run:

$ git config --global diff.tool p4merge
