Scam Shield is a browser extension that helps users identify warning signs commonly associated with online scams, including pig butchering, crypto investment fraud, payment scams, impersonation, and suspicious account warnings.
This policy explains what data Scam Shield handles and how it is used.
Scam Shield performs scam-risk analysis locally in your browser. The extension does not sell user data, does not use user data for advertising, and does not transmit the contents of webpages to the publisher or to any third party.
Scam Shield may locally access:
- Visible webpage text, page title, and page description so it can detect scam-related warning signs.
- The current website domain so the extension can show the correct page status and support trusted-site settings.
- Extension settings such as protection status, sensitivity level, and trusted domains.
This information is used only to provide the extension's user-facing scam-warning features.
Scam Shield does not collect, transmit, sell, rent, or share browsing content, page text, browsing history, personal communications, financial information, passwords, wallet phrases, or identity documents with the publisher or third parties.
Scam Shield does not use analytics, advertising SDKs, tracking pixels, external APIs, or remote scam-scoring services.
Scam Shield stores the following settings using Chrome extension storage:
- Whether protection is enabled.
- The selected sensitivity level.
- Domains the user has chosen to trust.
These settings are used only to operate the extension. Users can remove trusted domains in the extension settings or uninstall the extension to remove its stored settings from the browser.
Scam Shield requests access to websites so it can scan visible page text and show warnings when scam patterns appear. This access is used only for the extension's stated scam-warning purpose.
Scam Shield also uses extension storage to save settings and active-tab scripting so the popup can scan pages that were already open before the extension was loaded or updated.
The use of information received from Chrome extension APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Scam Shield uses accessed data only to provide and improve its single purpose: helping users identify potential scam warning signs in webpages they visit.
Scam Shield does not transfer user data to advertising platforms, data brokers, information resellers, or third parties for personalized advertising, credit-worthiness, lending, or unrelated purposes.
Because Scam Shield does not transmit page content or browsing activity to the publisher, humans working on Scam Shield do not read users' webpage content, browsing activity, or scanned text.
Scam Shield is designed to process scam-risk signals locally in the browser. The extension avoids remote transmission of scanned page content and uses Chrome's extension storage for user settings.
Scam Shield is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
This policy may be updated if Scam Shield's behavior changes. If the extension begins collecting, transmitting, or sharing user data in a new way, this policy and the Chrome Web Store privacy disclosures should be updated before release.
