Privacy Policy for FetchFocus

At FetchFocus ("we", "us", or "our"), we believe that productivity tools should empower you without compromising your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our Chrome Extension handles your data.

The Short Version: We are a "local-first" extension. We do not collect, transmit, or sell your browsing history, tasks, or focus data. All processing, including AI analysis, happens locally on your device.

1. No Data Collection

FetchFocus does not transmit any of your data to external servers. We do not maintain a backend database to store your user information.

  • No Account Required: You do not need to create an account with us to use the extension.
  • No Analytics: We do not use third-party analytics software (like Google Analytics) to track your usage within the extension.

2. Local Data Storage

All data generated by the extension is stored locally on your machine using Chrome's storage.local API. This includes:

  • Focus Settings: Your defined keywords, whitelist/blacklist rules, and preferences.
  • Task Data: Your todo lists and session goals.
  • Usage History: Logs of your focus session durations and completion status.

Data Retention: Since this data is stored in your browser, uninstalling the extension will permanently delete this data.

3. AI and Content Analysis (Gemini Nano)

FetchFocus uses Google's Gemini Nano, a local AI model built into the Chrome browser, to power features like "Content Drift Detection."

  • On-Device Processing: When the extension analyzes a webpage to see if it matches your focus goal, the text of that page is processed entirely within your computer's memory.
  • No Cloud Transmission: The content of the pages you visit is never sent to our servers, Google's cloud servers, or any third-party AI provider for analysis.
  • Privacy: The local model does not learn from your data or store your browsing content permanently.

4. Permissions Explained

To function correctly, FetchFocus requires specific browser permissions. We only request what is strictly necessary:

  • activeTab / tabs: Required to read the current URL and page content to determine if you are "focused" or "distracted" based on your settings.
  • storage: Required to save your settings and tasks locally.
  • scripting: Required to display the "Nudge" overlays (the dog character) and warnings on top of web pages.
  • alarms: Used to run the focus timers and check the "10-minute rule" for inactivity.
  • aiLanguageModelOriginTrial / optimizationGuide: Required to access the local Gemini Nano model for on-device analysis.

5. Third-Party Services

While the extension itself does not connect to third-party services, it is distributed via the Chrome Web Store.

  • Google may collect aggregated, anonymous installation statistics (e.g., how many users have installed the extension) which are visible to developers. This is governed by Google's Privacy Policy.

6. Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy occasionally to reflect changes in the extension's functionality. If we make significant changes—for example, if we introduce an optional feature to sync data across devices—we will notify users via the extension update notes.
