REQUIREMENTS

  • 1 Ethernet Cable
  • A Modded PS3 (CFW/HEN) - https://www.reddit.com/r/ps3homebrew/wiki/flashers for CFW, or if your PS3 is not compatible, look for HEN.
  • Knowing how to FTP into your PS3
  • PS3 Connected to a PC through Ethernet, PC connected to the internet (through wifi, or with another ethernet port on your PC - laptops are useful, Raspberry PIs also work)

1. Game Version

The mod requires the game to be on version 2.11. Beyond that has extra issues with the LAN Mode, on top of patched hybrids (modified cars). There is no additional content added past 2.11.

To make sure your GT5 is not above 2.11, check Game Data Utility in the PS3, triangle on Gran Turismo 5 and Information.

[Click to expand] Checking for the Correct Version Head to PS3 Game Data, locate Gran Turismo 5, press Information.

⚠️ If you do not find it, chances are you're on 1.00.

If your game is not on that version, you have two options

[Click to expand] If your game is on the latest version (2.17) - Downgrade Patch We offer a downgrading patch that you can install to revert your game back to 2.11.
  • Download the Downgrade_Patch depending on the region that you have.
  • Extract the Zip file, copy the contents over to your PS3 through FTP (or USB using Multiman) to /dev_hdd0/game.
[Click to expand] If your game is not on 2.11 or above - Install Updates

You can either download and install the game updates directly on the PS3, download and install 21 of 27 updates. Check in the Game Data for the current version to make sure not go above. If you did, you can use the downgrade patch.

2. Apply the Mod to your game

[Click to expand] 1. Download the GT5 "Master" Mod (LAN Mod)
  • Head to the Mod Download Folder
  • Download the latest version and region corresponding to your game.
[Click to expand] 2. Copy/Install the mod onto the game
  • FTP into your PS3/copy the files through Multiman File Manager using an USB and copy the PDIPFS folder inside the zip in /dev_hdd0/game/<BCES00569/BCUS98114/BCJS30001/BCAS20108>/USRDIR, do NOT delete the already present PDIPFS folder. If it prompts you to overwrite files do it.
  • If you are using FTP, make sure the transfer type is set to Binary

Once you've done that, you can proceed to boot the game. If you've done everthing right, you may notice something changed:

3. Enabling the LAN Mode

[Click to expand] 1. Head to the Game Settings, look for Secret, Toggle Display (at the bottom)
  • Enable "label_lounge"

[Click to expand] 2. Making your name display in lobbies + Other Extra Options
  • Enable Online Lounge Demo. This option properly makes your name display in the online lobbies. Also enable Disable Lounge Chat, and Lounge View Change (SELECT in spectator mode in lobbies will let you change camera).
  • Set your Name and Region, in the Online Lounge menu. Region needs to correspond to one of those below.

⚠ Make sure that you have a current car! ⚠

Head to GT Mode and proceed through the prompts if it's your first time launching the game. Make sure that you are currently in a car, if not, buy one in the Dealership(s). If not, you will be unable to join lobbies and will be stuck on a black screen.

4. Getting & Setting Up XLink Kai

  • Register for a XLink Kai account, verify email and download XLink Kai
  • Run XLink Kai, log onto it, you might have to press the consent for GDPR
  • Once logged, connect the PS3 to your PC through Ethernet
    • Go to the PS3 Internet Connection Settings
    • Check Wired Connection, then just set Automatic for everything
    • Go to Internet Connection Test, if Obtaining IP Address succeeds and the rest fails, you are good to go
  • Make sure that on top of the of the XLink Kai screen, in "Metrics", scroll down and see Playstation 3 - Configured OK!
  • If you have Webman, before launching the game make sure that the info while pressing Start + Select shows an IP Starting with 10.*, else just check in the connection settings.

Troubleshooting

If that doesn't work, try the IP Calculator. On your PS3, go to System Settings, Scroll all the way down to System Information, find your MAC Address.

Fill in the Last two parts of console's hardware MAC address: [xx]:[xx]:[xx]:[xx]: in the IP Calculator, Select Sony Playstation 3, then press Calculate IP Address. On the PS3, go down to Network Settings, Internet Connection Settings.

Custom -> Wired Connection -> Auto-Detect -> Manual -> Put what you see in the IP Calculator, continue, -> Do Not Set, Automatic -> Automatic, Do not Use, -> Enable then press X.

If that still does not work, you may try to use the official XLink Kai PS3 Setup Guide.

5. Unlocking Cars & DLCs

For a better experience we ask you to have the DLCs unlocked with extra tracks unlocked, with the new discovery of an admin menu hidden in the game you can now unlock cars, paints, dlcs, tracks directly inside the game.

Using the Debug Menu & Unlocking DLCs
  • Run the game, press SELECT in the main menu to bring up the debug menu.
  • Go to the DLC Menu, press all the options, and more importantly, Do not disable when you next boot (for event use).
  • Make sure to save the game manually, and to press the button to keep dlcs after reboot in the DLC section.

⚠️ When exiting out the menu and pressing "OK", your Units may be set to mph. Accordingly you may want to set it back to km/h if it was set to that.

6. Join other players

  • In XLink Kai, go to Game Arenas, Left of screen: Playstation 3, Racing and Flying, Gran Turismo 5
  • For a private one, look for the pencil icon on the top right, fill in details and Create.
  • Go to the game, go to LAN Menu, and create a game or join one!

You are now good to go!

Additional Notes

  • The chat button does NOT work and will softlock your game. You are strongly recommended to disable the multiplayer chat option in the secret menu if you haven't done that yet.
