Setting up the modpack

Below are the best practices for setting up an Enigmatica modpack instance.

Please do not ask for help in the comments, go the the support channel on my Discord.

RAM

All Minecraft modpacks require you to allocate a certain amount of RAM for them to work properly. The amount depends on the modpack.

Setting RAM allocation with Twitch
  • Open Twitch
  • Click the Menu icon in the top left corner
  • Hover over File, and then click on Settings
  • Go to the Minecraft tab
  • Scroll down to the Java Settings section.
  • Use the Allocated Memory slider to assign RAM.
  • Done!
Recommended allocation amount

Never allocate more than your PC can spare.

Total RAM (in GB) Maximum RAM allocation (in GB)
4 3
8 6.5
12 8
16 8

Assigning more than 8GB is never recommend, as you may actually get worse performance. If you're using shaders or a high resolution resource pack, the maximum is 10GB.

Modpack Recommended RAM
Enigmatica 2 7
Enigmatica 2: Light 5
Enigmatica 2: Expert 6.5
Enigmatica 2: Expert Skyblock 6
Enigmatica 4 4
Enigmatica 5 6
Enigmatica 6 5

Java

Twitch defaults to using an old version that comes with Minecraft, so you have to set the version yourself.

Downloading latest Java

The version you should use is the latest Java 8 64-bit, which you can find here:

https://java.com/en/download/manual.jsp

The one you need is Windows Offline (64-bit)

Set Twitch to use most recent Java 8
  • Open Twitch
  • Click the Menu icon in the top left corner
  • Hover over File, and then click on Settings
  • Go to the Minecraft tab
  • Scroll down to the Java Settings section.
  • In the Additional Arguments textbox, input -version:1.8+
  • Done!

Java Arguments

For optimal performance, we recommend that you use these Java arguments:

-version:1.8+ -XX:+UseG1GC -Dsun.rmi.dgc.server.gcInterval=2147483646 -XX:+UnlockExperimentalVMOptions -XX:G1NewSizePercent=20 -XX:G1ReservePercent=20 -XX:MaxGCPauseMillis=50 -XX:G1HeapRegionSize=32M

In order to set Java arguments using Twitch, follow these steps:

  • Open Twitch
  • Click the Menu icon in the top left corner
  • Hover over File, and then click on Settings
  • Go to the Minecraft tab
  • Scroll down to the Java Settings section.
  • Put the arguments in the "Additional Arguments textbox"
  • Done!

I am having a problem with my game running smoothly. I have tried messing with the allocated memory a ton I have tried 4,5,6,7,8,9, and 10 gb and none of them work the best I found was 5 and it ran well for about 3 minutes then crashed. My background apps aren't effecting my performance only about 28% memory. I'm pretty sure its not my computer as I have:
AMD Ryzen 5 2400 G processer
24 Gb DDR4 (overkill)
1tb harddrive
RX 580 graphics card with 4GB GGDR5
plz help me

your vanilla jar may be corrupt. - Try reinstalling the modpack, or maybe even Twitch :)

Try deleting the entire Twitch\Minecraft\Install folder. If that doesn't work, please go to my Discord's support section, this isn't really the place for support :) https://discord.gg/xPPwaFx

Does it matter if you choose the JAR launcher instead of the native launcher.

I recommend always using native.

Also you said reinstalling the modpack might solve some issues. Would this delete any of the worlds ?

Your worlds would remain in your old instance, yes, you would have to move the saves folder to the new install of the modpack.

Either try again later, or use another launcher such as MultiMC or GDLauncher.

What is a profile file?
The issue isn't on my end, it's the Twitch launcher that isn't always able to get the required files.

You most likely have 32-bit Java, you need 64-bit, use the link in the post :)

I just thought I'd add for anyone who may also be having issues with the twitch launcher, I downloaded MultiMC and installed it through that and it it all worked perfectly. So glad I can actually play Enigmatica and not just scream at twitch over and over lol
