9 Aki >:(
10 Ena Was reading. That's not good, Nadeshiko-chan.
11 Nade It's so quiet here in the low season, Rin'd love this, I’m sure. One hand typing, slow
12 Inuko Ah, speak of the devil, Rin's just arrived.
13 Rin @Inuko >_> She knew what was up.
14 Nade Rin-chaaaaaaan!!! Guess I'm changing my mind. Refers to #2.
15 Inuko [Awesome Face] This notification popped up halfway. Nadeshiko was already turning the screen off and did not notice.

References

Nadeshiko Kagamihara 【各務原なでしこ】 from Yuru Camp (ゆるキャン△ / Laid-Back Camp)

The scene is from a real view point in Kohoku View Line (Route 21), Kawaguchi Lake, Yamanashi, Japan.

Notes

Character Design

  • The costume is slightly altered from the referenced figure. In the visualizer, the jacket sat on her right shoulder / left bike handle, implying it was afternoon and the weather was getting hotter. The backpack was left at the camp off screen.
  • Most smartphones have their rear camera placed on the left side, but in both manga and anime version of Yuru Camp, they are on the right (a minor oversight from Afro?).
    • Despite that, Noisysundae's version still used what is shown in the original works.

The Scene

  • Like the Momiji Tunnel, the scene's real location is popular during Autumn. It is the end of Spring in the visualizer, which is its low season.

    • Planning your trip for visiting the place in Winter and Spring is not recommended, however, due to the Fuji usually being completely hidden behind the fog (based on many videos and Google Street View photos in different time).
  • Unlike most western countries, Japan adopts left-hand traffic, hence the road side Nadeshiko took.

  • The vertical line shading and fisheye effect are also present in most of Yuru Camp manga's panels.

    Example

The Chat

  • Welcome to Kawaguchiko is a reference to Silent Hill's "Welcome to Silent Hill" sign.
  • L*ne refers to Line, an instant messaging platform. Popular in many East Asia countries, along with a few in the Southeast such as Indonesia and Thailand.
  • The chat group name, Blankémon 【ブランケモン】 is shortened from Blanket Monsters, a nod to Pocket Monsters (also known as: Pokémon).
    • This is also named after the Secret Society Blanket 【秘密結社ブランケット】, a circle in the series lncluding Aoi (Inuko), Chiaki (Aki), Nadeshiko (Nade), Rin, Ena, and...Chikuwa?
  • The second selfie is a reference to a Photoshop meme.
  • Nadeshiko sneaked out of the camp to buy some snacks from Y*m*zaki, which refers to Yamazaki, a bakery franchise that also exists in several countries in Asia, including Thailand.
    • That is why we know first-hand they sell chocolate waffles. Sadly, the shop near our place was closed years ago.
    • Also, the shop Nadeshiko visited is a real location. It is about 1 kilometre from the view point.
  • Towards the end, Rin sent the >_> emoticon mentioning Aoi because she knew Aoi was bluffing (Rin did not make it to the camp yet.), which was hinted with the Awesome Face smiley that appeared right before Nadeshiko turned off the screen.
    • In Yuru Camp, Aoi occasionally makes a face similar to the Awesome Face when she make something up.

      Just kidding.
