Chapter 6

  • we have a choice on who to serve
  • True baptism, into Jesus Christ, into His death
    • I am buried WITH Him by baptism into death
      • I shall also live with Him
      • This is NOTHING related to water baptism (washing away of sins)
  • The old man is crucified with Him
  • I am not under the law, I am under grace
    • Dead unto sin
      • This means that sin has no hold on me. It cant condemn me anymore. Sin is nullified even if/when I commit the act
        • The chapter makes it clear this is not a license to sin
          • I think of children vs adult
            • children are under the law of their parents and will suffer punishment for disobedience. They have restrictions etc..
            • as an adult, you no longer have restrictions, you can choose when you want to eat or go to bed, but that doesnt mean you should be a glutton or stay up all night
              • this would only hurt you as an adult
  • This should motivate me to not sin
  • I still have to choose which I will serve, righteousness (the word of God) or sin (contrary to sound doctrine)
    • Most people will overlook other sins that dont directly hurt them. Think about all the things you do. Are they inline with scripture, the new man?
  • "now" yeild your members unto righteousness
  • Everything you do will produce fruit.
    • sin fruits to death
    • servants to God (His word), holiness
      • "and the end everlasting life"
        • you get to take those things with you into eternity!!
          • Lay up treasures
            • Matt 6:20
          • tried by fire , gold, wood hay stubble
  • "The wages of sin is death"
    • Although its true that sin == hell (so get forgiven of it all), could this mean that your sin only produces that fruit/death
      • v21 for the end of those things is death
        • speaking to the believers
