MTH 201 (Calculus) Course Objectives from GVSU Syllabus of Record
- Apply the definite integral to compute the total change of a function from the rate of change and to compute area.
- State the Fundamental Theorem of Calculus.
- Describe the relation between the definite integral of a function and areas between the graph of that function and the horizontal axis.
- Understand the definition of the definite integral as the limit of a Riemann sum.
- Compute derivatives using the product rule, quotient rule, and chain rule.
- Conceptually understand and evaluate limits, including L'Hopital's Rule.
- State the formal definition of the derivative of a function and the purpose of each symbol in that definition.
- Discuss the interpretations of the derivative as the slope of a tangent line and an instantaneous rate of change of a function.
- Determine the tangent line to a function at a specific point on the graph of the function.
- Be fluent with the concept of function and be able to determine information about a function through the processes of differentiation and integration.
