Guidelines for OpenBazaar Community Platforms

The OpenBazaar community uses several platforms to discuss the project and coordinate development, including Slack, Reddit, and IRC. As the community grows we'd like to set guidelines for how these platforms should be used. The core developers want to create spaces for OpenBazaar users to be able to interact with each other in constructive ways, and we plan on doing little moderating of these platforms as long as these guidelines are followed.

Stay on Topic

Within the Slack there are many channels for different topics. It's natural to have a conversation wander occasionally - that's not a problem, simply move to the appropriate channel when you notice or when you're asked. #random or #coffee_break are good places for talking about things not related to OpenBazaar.

The subreddit is a place for posting about and discussing OpenBazaar. Posts not related to OpenBazaar may be removed.

Don't Sell

Don't promote your altcoins on OB platforms. Don't promote other marketplaces (centralized or decentralized). Discussing other decentralized markets is fine - we welcome all attempts to decentralize trade - but no direct promotion.

You can post about your OB store, but only for troubleshooting or testing purposes. Please don't advertise your products in the subreddit at all, and only in the #check-out-my-store channel on Slack.

Any advertising the sale of illegal items will result in being kicked off the platform. Same for posting links to malware or other harmful material.

Be considerate

There are hundreds of users in the Slack. Please use group messages (@channel) sparingly and for important messages only.

OB community members range from developers to ecommerce buyers to lawyers and everyone in between. Users should recognize there are varying levels of technical expertise and not criticize less experienced users.

Do not copy people's comments in Slack and use them outside the platform without asking for their permission.

Doxxing, threatening, using hateful speech, or impersonating other users will get you kicked.
