- Wool Outerwear
- Smart Wool Hat
- Smart Wool Gloves
- Wool Socks - Smart Wool is def fine, just couldn't bring myself to spend that much on socks 😬
- Non-cotton base layer
- Coat / Shell as needed for warmth & waterproof weather
- Pants
- Hiking Pants - Reinforced knees are good, I'm warm enough when moving in these or
- Fleece lined Snow Pant if you need the extra warmth
- Pack with hydration system - I'll go through ~3L of water in a winter hike, way more than any other season
- Waterproof Boots
- I 😍 Merrell, good shoes are always worth the 💰
- If hiking in snow, you def want something that covers your ankles
- Poles - Usually an optional item, but on snow / ice I appreciate all the extra stability I can get
- Headlamp - Sun sets pretty early, bring extra batteries
- Safety Gear
- First Aid Kit
- USB Charger - Backup power supply for cell phones, esp if you're using AllTrails, or other electronic maps
- Extra food in case of emergency
- Microspikes - DO NOT use YakTrax on the trail
- Gaiters
- Snowshoes - I don't own any as I'm not hiking anywhere where I need to break trail, but I have been on a few where they would've made it easier, but not essential; though you can find some snowshoe bundles that include both poles & gaiters, and they all have spikes built-in for traction.
