Pseudo-random ideas, very much WIP

Freedomboxes are a great idea, but not nearly practical and painless enough for wide-spread adoption.

What I want to propose here is something similar in concept to the Freedombox but a lot more plug'n'play. As in:

  • Buy a whatever-you-wanna-call-it-box
  • Plug in power and ethernet cables (couple cm cable included to just hang it off the router)
  • Go to whatever-you-wanna-call-it-box.lan and create a social profile / calendar / photo gallery / ...

Here, ipfs/notes#40 (comment) comes in.

Finding friends: your smartphone talks to your box at home, so if you meet somebody you wanna be friends with, just tell your phone to tell his phone to tell his box to coordinate with your box. Since your phone knows your box's IP address (which won't change ever because IPv6 is being adopted way too quickly), it can tell his box where to look for your box. Once that connection is established, the boxes do everything else. Obviously, on the phone, you have an app that talks to nearby phones which expose their user. So you simply hit the 'friend' button on that person sitting next to you, and all the magic happens transparently in the background.
