Setting Group Expectations

Group Member Names: Alex, Bao, Nick

  1. When are group members available to work together? What hours can each group member work individually? Are there any personal time commitments that need to be discussed? Everyone has no personal commitments this coming week. We would like to not work past 6 or 7pm. Also, working on both Saturday and Sunday for 5-6 hours is good. Meet at Turing, or somewhere downtown.

  2. How will group members communicate? How often will communication happen, and how will open lines of communication be maintained?

Not expecting anybody to check slack messages after 7pm. Communicate challenges and time box problems so that we ask for help to get past a roadblock.

Story 1: Create Wireframes for Most Important Views

Think about what you think the workflow should be on the site. Which of those views is most important?

In addition to the home page wireframe, create wireframes the page immediately following your Log In and the next most important page for your application.

Examples might be: A users' profile page, a product page, an admin dashboard etc...

Read "Can you teach people to have empathy?" for my second gear up pre-work.

Reading this reminds me a lot so far of what I practice, or at least try to practice every day. I am in a few committed non-monogomous relationships and that requires a lot of communication and actually listening to your partners when they tell you things. The Non-Violent Communication style is what we do with everyone and tell everyone to use. I try and repeat what was said everytime I answer a question so I can best answer the question during conflicts, and apparently from the article it helps reach resolution 50% faster. I've gotten into activism recently especially with the homeless and the recent homeless sweeps in Denver. With police literally taking people's blankets and other things to keep warm when it's below freezing at night. Through that I've learned to think about what other people's situations are like, how different things affect their life. I've "joked" with friends that

  • What role does empathy play in your life and how has it helped you?
  • How does empathy help you build better software?
  • Why is empathy important for working on a team?
  • Describe a situation in which your ability to empathize with a colleague or teammate was helpful.
  • When do you find it most difficult to be empathetic in professional settings? How can you improve your skills when faced with these scenarios?

The first article I read was: "Why is Empathy Important for Design"

I have learned to be more empathetic to people with different struggles than I do, for example my partner has a few medical conitions that limits their mobility both walking and even finger problems. One thing we did to help that is we got a dvorak keyboard cover and changed the keyboard in the settings. I learned watching her type that common keyboard shortcuts aren't as easy to use or as easy to reach for her, but overall it helps her a lot because her fingers have to do a
