Web Designer (applications closed)

The Rust Programming Language is seeking a contractor to work on the design of the new Rust website.

Your primary job will be to work on the site's visual design. This candidate will be expected to:

  • Produce design comps for pages on the site
  • Collaborate on a living styleguide
  • Provide design feedback and mentorship

For the right candidate there is also an option to extend the contract to help with implementation work, though this is not a hard requirement.

Successful candidates will:

  • Have a great design ability
  • Have 2+ years of professional design experience
  • Be excited to help mentor other team members
  • Have experience soliciting and managing feedback from a diverse set of stakeholders
  • Be comfortable working in an open source environment or be willing to learn

Nice to haves (these are 100% optional!):

  • Experience using living styleguides
  • Experience or familiarity with GitHub and open source workflows
  • Solid CSS skills
  • Familiarity with a11y (web accessibility)
  • Familiarity with Web Performance optimizations
  • Experience using Markdown, Webpack, SCSS, Node.js
  • Familiarity the Rust community

This job is:

  • Remote/International friendly (must be available for calls 4:00pm-6:00pm GMT; one team member is in US Pacific time, the other is in US Eastern time)
  • Paid hourly via a contract
  • Likely ~3mos, at 20hrs/week (this is negotiable)
  • Estimated hourly rate of ~100 US Dollars (this is also negotiable!)
