Short guide for detecting fake Facebook profiles, and scams.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You're the first line of defense against scammers. Keep always that in mind! (Please)

How to detect them?

  • Profile is too new.
  • There's a small amount of public pictures in his/her profile.
  • The list of friends is from different countries, and there's lack of uniformity in the people in it.
  • Pictures display semi-nudity or are provocative.
  • All comments in pictures are NOT from friends and family.
  • Retrosearch his/her profiles picture using https://www.google.com/imghp
    • If his/her picture appears in too many places, it's likely a fake profiles.

What to do then?

  1. If in doubt:
    • Mods: Just suspend them for some time.
    • Group members: Report to the admins.
  2. If sure that they are scammers:
    • Mods: Utterly block them.
    • Group members: Report to the admins.
