Module 3

Intermission Reflections

Please list the top 3-5 industries and companies you'll pursue in your job search as of right now.

  1. Tech / Fashion Industry
  2. Product Management / Design
  3. Social Media Platforms / Apps ??? Is that considered an industry?

Why did you pick the industries/companies that you listed above? How do they relate to the values and goals you have for yourself in your job search?

Module 2 Week 5

Review your habit tracker: how did you monitor your habit(s)? What does this tell you about your overall progress becoming the person you want to be? In general, how satisfied are you with how you spent your time this module? What could be improved next module?

  • I have implemented a habit tracker. I am satisfied with my production specific to the Turing curriculum, however I would like to become a bit more active on my approach to finding a career path starting with Module 3. I think my intensity can ramp up, and I want to focus heavier on my habits and forming a new person out of my current self. Iterating, building upon new habits that add to my overall discipline.

Module 2 Week 4

  1. Prepare for Job Experience: AEIOU Activities: what questions do you have about the activities that a software developer does on a daily basis?
  • What a daily workload looks like. Here in Turing we take on a lot of work and are often thrown into the fire and must simply get out alive. In the real world you are most certainly expected to deliver quality work that is professional and thorough. What does that workload look like? I am under the impression that the projects we work on at Turing are short turn around items and would never exist in such a quick manner in the real world. Is that the case? Additionally, how much improvisation exists on the job. I assume / hope you are still learning everyday.
Environment: what questions do you have about the overall environment and culture of this workplace?
  • What are some expectations you had about the industry that were struck down or surprisingly absent?
  • What norms were a pleasant surpise or new that you found bene

Module 2 Week 3

Assess your habits from week 2: how did you spend your time this past week? What was effective in your habits? What could be more effective? What steps will you take to make that happen?

Week 2 was full of plent of work and not much extra time. My self care lacked slightly, but felt really accomplished in regards to my project work and progress in this Mod. Again, I think my time and focus could be split up more efficiently and working on improving my mornings will be key this week.

Reflect on how you’ve spent your time so far at Turing to gauge your engagement and energy:

When have you been excited, focused, and enjoyed your work? When have you felt bored, restless, or unhappy? When do you feel energized in your work? When is your energy drained? My energy and focus specifically surrounding learning a new topic has never been in a better place. However, burn out and troughs of sorrows still do occur naturally. I find myself extremely energized when in a rhythym and have

Module 2 Week 2

Assess your habits from week 1: how did you spend your time this past week? What was effective in your habits? What could be more effective? What steps will you take to make that happen?
With a heavy workload in our paired project I found myself neglecting certain habits that I wanted to focus on. I found myself extremely focused and obsessive about ciriculum, but definitely narrowed my focus towards working on finishing our project. I hope to spread out my focus and energy to make sure I am looking out for my personal growth in all areas while maintaining healthy habits outside of Turing. I will ensure to make more time for myself and also work to improve my morning scheduling.

Write a draft of your professional story here as 1-2 paragraphs. Focus on answering the questions who are you, why are you here, and what’s next? Consider how to talk about your motives and values, the turning points that led to your career change, and what you envision for yourself going forward.

Module 2 Week 1 Career Journal Prompt

Reflect on your habits from last module. What behaviors and activities were helpful for you? What activities and behaviors could be more effective for you? What processes would you like to try differently this module to become more effective at your work and as a software developer? During last module I found to ride fairly high during the early portion of the Mod. I think it is easy to come in setting high expectations and riding the energy and adrenaline coming into a new experience. I found that this energy and focus wore off as the Mod moved forward. This is not necessarily a bad thing and could somewhat expected. I have always found myself setting high expectations and unrealistic goals and this was something I wanted to work on in module 1. I do feel I have made a lot of progress in setting realistic goals since starting Turing and want to continue to improve in that area. For this Module, I had alerady hoped to be a lot more habitual in my continued path through

Why is empathy important for design?

why are we talking about empathy at a software development school? how can you develop the "skill" of empathy? and why should you care?

"Let's not let the wish be the father of the thought."

I find myself to be more empathic than the average person, but of course I could always be better. I think it is also important to understand that you exist within your own complex and are exposed to that first. Therefore, in certain situations or life scenarios, I might consider myself to be more empathic than somebody, but in their path of life, they might be exposed to numerous other situations that give them their own perspective. That is what it is all about in the end -- perspective. Empathic, listening, and perspective are the three values that I think are most important when we consider design and humanity in general. In order to produce useful products, it’s important to listen with intent. When I say intent, the intent is to be open-min

When you've worked towards a goal in the past, what systems or tools have been helpful for you in accomplishing that goal? How could you adapt those same systems/tools to use while at Turing?

1. Plan Realistically - in a localized and tangible place.

2. Follow Through - Exceed Expectations When Possible

3. Follow Up - Look back and reflect

In the past, when working towards goals, I have found that one of the biggest make or break factors for myself is consistency. I find myself to have high expectations and therefore I set unrealistic goals which then causes me to become discouraged or frustrated when my expectations have not been met. Consequently, I have developed simple cornerstones that I can fall back on to make sure I am reaching my goals. First, I plan realistically. As I noted, I tend to have unrealistic expectations of myself and think I can reach much higher ceilings than I am actually capable of. Planning realistically allows me to think ahead an
