Associating WhatsApp Links with Rambox on KDE

This document outlines the steps to associate WhatsApp links (e.g., whatsapp://, api.whatsapp.com) with Rambox in KDE.

Steps

1. Identify Desktop Environment:

   • We determined that KDE is the current desktop environment using the command: echo $XDG_CURRENT_DESKTOP.

2. System Settings:

   • Opened System Settings and navigated to Applications > Default Applications.
   • Checked for options to add a custom protocol for whatsapp:// links.

3. Edit Configuration File:

   • Opened or created ~/.config/mimeapps.list.
   • Added an entry for x-scheme-handler/whatsapp to use Rambox:

     [Default Applications]
     x-scheme-handler/whatsapp=rambox.desktop
     

4. Verification:

   • Ensured that rambox.desktop was a valid desktop entry application.

5. Testing:

   • Verified the setup by clicking a whatsapp:// link to ensure it opened in Rambox.
