Current Gun Laws in Wisconsin

Firearm Purchase and Possession

General Requirements

No Permit Needed: No permit is required to sell or purchase shotguns, rifles, handguns, or other firearms. Record Keeping: Retailers, dealers, manufacturers, pawnbrokers, and businesses that sell firearms must keep records of each individual sale and purchase. These records must be kept on-site and made available to law enforcement when required.

Waiting Period

Handguns: A 48-hour waiting period is required for the purchase of any handgun.

Possession of Specific Firearms

Machine Guns and Silencers: Possession of machine guns, short-barreled rifles and shotguns, and gun silencers and compressors is allowed if properly registered with state and federal authorities. Certified gun dealers may also sell these items if authorized by state and federal regulations.

Concealed Carry

Legalization Concealed Carry: Carrying a concealed weapon is legal in Wisconsin. A license is required for concealed carry.
