I will live my life to serve others and will work to show greater love to all people.
I recognize the damage to my relationships, productivity, and happiness stemming from my ego. I will work continually to identify and suppress to the best of my ability the influence of ego.
I will seek the best in others and work to understand and value the differences they bring to the world. In particular, I will continue to seek education and understanding around my own biases and prejudice, particularly in regards to race. In seeking to understand, I will work towards eliminating systemic racism and barriers to all people engrained in our world.
I will seek feedback. Recognizing the difficulty in giving feedback, particularly in areas of racism, I will graciously accept feedback in whatever form it comes.
My life stems from my own choices, and contains no have-tos nor need-tos. I weigh the outcomes and choose my path forward; I will not enjoy all tasks, and I will choose to do them over the alternative consequences.
I will endevor to use and over but, recognizing the validity and room for multiple truths and multiple narratives.
I view leadership as service; my leadership will endevor to understand and support the team on its mission. I will lead by example on a foundation of the values expressed herein.
I will approach the world with curiosity. When confronted with challenges, hard feedback, conflict, new ideas, I will begin with curiosity.
I will take care of my physical and mental health through regular phsical activity, healthy food habits, meditation, and therapy.
As a partner,
- I will choose to love and respect my wife daily.
- I will put her first.
- I will work to increase my patience, tenderness, and care of her in all my actions.
- I will do my best, throughout life, to help build her up and support her in her growth -- as a physical and spiritual person, as a professional, as a mother, and as a loved one to many.
As a father,
- I will support and love my children.
- I will help them develop into contributing, responsible members of society who uphold their values of love and respect for their fellow man and world.
- I will help them discover and cultivate their own interests and a spirit of curiosity.
As a physician,
- I will meet my patients where they are and do my best to care for their needs.
- I will advocate for their well-being and human rights.
As a citizen,
- I will vote in support of respect and dignity for all, particularly those in the greatest need.
- I will advocate for policy to reduce poverty and the gap between the rich and poor.
- I will advocate for policy to reduce the human impact on environmental damage and climate change.
I will continue to re-evaluate my beliefs and values, expecting them to change as I continue to learn and grow. I will humbly update my values and my mission statement accordingly.
