Draconic Lord

Changelog:

  • Fixed lack of proficiencies and Predator's Claws.
  • Reduce HD to d10, BAB to 3/4, and Ref save to bad.

Editor's note: Still in progress. Everything subject to change. This is an attempt at making a less underwhelming replacement for the Draconic Exemplar class.

Prerequisites: Taninim.

Class Features

Weapon and Armor Proficiency: A draconic lord is proficient only with natural attacks. He is proficient with no armor or shields.

Spells: A draconic lord casts arcane spells drawn from the sorcerer/wizard spell list. He can cast any spell he knows without preparing it ahead of time. To learn or cast a spell, a draconic lord must have a Charisma score equal to at least 10 + the spell level. The Difficulty Class (DC) for a saving throw against a draconic lord's spell is 10 + the spell level + the draconic lord's Charisma modifier.

Like other spellcasters, a draconic lord can cast only a certain number of spells of each spell level per day. His base daily spell allotment is given on Table: Draconic Lord. In addition, he receives bonus spells per day if he has a high Charisma score.

The draconic lord's selection of spells is limited. A draconic lord begins play knowing four 0-level spells and two 1st-level spells of the draconic lord's choice. At each new draconic lord level, he gains one or more new spells, as indicated on Table: Draconic Lord Spells Known. (Unlike spells per day, the number of spells a draconic lord knows is not affected by his Charisma score (See Table: Ability Modifiers and Bonus Spells).)

Upon reaching 5th level, and at every third draconic lord level after that (8th, 11th, and so on), a draconic lord can choose to learn a new spell in place of one he already knows. In effect, the draconic lord “loses” the old spell in exchange for the new one. The new spell's level must be the same as that of the spell being exchanged, and it must be at least one level lower than the highest-level draconic lord spell the draconic lord can cast. A draconic lord may swap only a single spell at any given level, and must choose whether or not to swap the spell at the same time that he gains new spells known for the level.

A draconic lord need not prepare his spells in advance. He can cast any spell he knows at any time, assuming he has not yet used up his allotment of spells per day for the spell's level.

Draconic Essence: At 1st level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It ability is identical to the Draconic Exemplar ability of the same name.

Eldritch Metabolism (Su): At 1st level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It ability is identical to the Trueblood Sorcerer ability of the same name.

Eldritch Metabolism (Su): At 1st level, the trueblood sorcerer can consume focus and material components for spells. Consuming a focus or material component in this manner causes a visible symbol similar to an arcane mark to appear on one of the trueblood sorcerer's scales, turning it into a scale component. This scale component now replaces the focus or material component for a spell permanently, unless the scale is destroyed. A scale component has hardness equal to the trueblood sorcerer's natural armor bonus and hit points equal to his class level. Scale components for material components with a value less than 1 gp or for focus components of any value have unlimited use. Scale components for material components with a value of 1 gp or more contain charges, with one charge being expended each time the scale component's associated spell is cast. Consuming the appropriate value of material components for a spell adds 1 charge to its scale component, and any number of charges for a particular scale component can be stored in this way.

Breath Weapon (Su): At 1st level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is identical to the draconic exemplar ability of the same name, except that it has no limit on uses per day.

Predator's Claws (Ex): At 1st level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is identical to the draconic exemplar ability of the same name.

Elemental Affinity (Ex): At 2nd level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is identical to the draconic exemplar ability of the same name, except that the subtype gained by the draconic lord doesn't give immunity or vulnerability to any energy types.

Dragon Senses (Ex): At 3rd level, the draconic lord can see four times as well as a human in dim light and twice as well in normal light.

At 7th level, the draconic lord's darkvision extends to a range of 90 feet.

At 11th level, the draconic lord's darkvision extends to a range of 120 feet.

At 15th level, the draconic lord gains blindsense with a range of 30 feet.

At 19th level, the draconic lord's blindsense extends to a range of 60 feet.

Frightful Presence (Ex): At 4th level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is identical to the draconic exemplar ability of the same name, except that it has no limit on uses per day.

Dracomorphosis (Ex): At 4th level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is ability is identical to the Draconic Exemplar ability of the same name.

Elemental Mastery: At 6th level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is identical to the Draconic Exemplar ability of the same name.

Change Shape (Su): At 9th level, the draconic lord gains the change shape ability, functioning as polymorph. It can take the shape of any animal or humanoid (as appropriate for polymorph) three times per day.

Diamond Soul (Ex): At 13th level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is identical to the monk ability of the same name.

Hardened Scales (Ex): At 14th level, the draconic lord gains damage resistance 5/magic. This damage resistance increases by +5 for every three additional draconic lord levels.

Elemental Aura (Su): At 18th level, the draconic lord is surrounded by an elemental aura. All creatures within 5 feet of the draconic lord take 1d6 points of damage of the type corresponding to the draconic lord's draconic essence at the beginning of the draconic lord's turn. At 20th level, this aura extends to 10 feet. The draconic lord can activate or suppress this aura as a free action.

Great Wyrm (Ex): At 20th level, the draconic lord gains this ability. It is identical to the Draconic Exemplar ability of the same name.
