My Utopian working environment

The Team
- Passionate people
- Not working in silos
- Grassroots not top down
- Smart
- Pair Programming (occasionally)
- Not delivery machine (or factory)
- Good friends - hang out, doing activities together 
  - coffee, lunches, sports, drinks
- Active in the community - attend meetups, present, hack nights
- Meet regularly - dev meeting, sharing, presenting (pivotal labs)

Leadership - dev manager, director
- Give direction and have a voice
- Talk to the people - being part of the people - being a friend
- Communicate daily to the team - informal is better than formal

Company 
- Has a vision - communicated clearly and often
- Giving back to community
-- 20% time to build something that company is good 
   - BUT 20% time to give something back to community is awesome
-- example: newbies mentoring, hosting hacknights, working on open source projects
- Regular company updates - wins and loses 
- Transparent
- Open doors
- 9-5 working hours
- An environment of trust
- After hours work is rare and an exception

Process
- Agile - Scrum, Kanban where applicable

Client
- Respectful
- Involved
- Collaborative / Partnership
- Responsible - no "I give you money - you make it work" attitude

Technology
- Irrelevant - using right tool for the right purpose 
  (ie: no elitist/exclusivist attitude/Microsoft bashing)
- Best practices - Version Control, Automated Anything (Testing, Deployment)
