Router

If you see a weird grey login screen (titled Buffalo) when you connect to Fiachranet or Fiachraguest network, it means the router under the desk isn't properly configured. This sometimes happens if the power reset, wires were unplugged, or if Comcast has an outtage.

What to do:

Quickfix

Use a backup router - the HooToo Tripmate is usually on the desk.

Hold the power button for 5+ seconds and it should light up. Plug it into a wall socket if the battery is dead.

Take the black etherenet cable out of the Buffallo router (the red and black unit with the green lights). The ethernet cable is the one plugged into the port with the blue label 'Internet' - it looks like an old school telephone cable.

Put this into the HooToo Tripmate.

Connect to the HooToo Tripmate wifi network when it appears - password is flynnduism.

The Longer Fix:

In July 2018, a reset caused the Buffalo Router to stop connecting to Comcast. Normally, you plug the router into the cable modem (Linksys CM3008) where the Comcast cable is hooked up, and voila; internet. If that doesn't happen, it's usually an auth issue with the Mac Address or the xfinity login not firing upon init (wifi.xfinity.com/?token#).

First Debugging Steps:

  • power down the two units, restart them after 15 mins
  • reset the config by pressing down with a pin

Check Router Settings

Open the Buffalo router admin at http://192.168.10.1/ and go to Advanced > Internet > Internet.
