Privacy Policy for LearnSphere Extension Last Updated: August 17, 2025

Thank you for using LearnSphere ("the extension"). This Privacy Policy explains what information the extension collects, how it is used, and how your privacy is protected. Our guiding principle is "local-first," meaning your data stays on your device.

  1. Data We Collect and Store

LearnSphere is designed to be privacy-focused. All your data is stored locally in your browser on your own computer using the chrome.storage and IndexedDB APIs. We do not have a server, and we do not collect or view your data.

The data stored locally includes:

Your Google Gemini API Key: Your API key is stored securely in your browser's local storage to enable communication with the Gemini API. It is never transmitted to us or any other third party.

Quiz History and Analytics: Your quiz results, scores, and learning progress are saved on your device to power your personal dashboard and knowledge gap analysis.

Chat Topics and Page History: Topics you chat about and the web pages you create quizzes for are stored locally to help you track your learning.

  1. Data We Process

To provide its core functionality, the extension needs to process the following data:

Website Content: When you highlight text and use a feature (Chat, Summarize, Quiz), that specific text is sent directly to the Google Gemini API for processing. This is the only piece of your data that leaves your browser, and it is only sent to Google. We recommend reviewing the Google API Privacy Policy.

  1. How We Use Your Data

Your data is used exclusively to provide the features of the extension.

We do not sell, transfer, or share your locally stored data with any third parties.

We do not use your data for advertising, creditworthiness, or any purpose unrelated to the extension's single purpose as a study assistant.

  1. Data Security and Control

You are in full control of your data. Because all data is stored locally, you can clear it at any time by clearing your browser's site data for the extension or by uninstalling the extension. You can also review and export your data from the extension's options page.

  1. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected in the extension's item description on the Chrome Web Store.
