Food Saver Product Plan

Capstone Product Plan

Product Plan Components

  1. Personal Learning Goals: A list outlining the major things that you want to focus on learning in this project.

    • Create a web application
    • Learn Python as a new language
    • Become more acquainted with API's (using as a backend and connecting to an external API)
  2. Problem Statement: A clear, concise statement describing the problem your project will solve. Re-use the problem statement from the concept write-up or update if you've made adjustments.

  • 40% of food waste is generated from the food produced in the US. From that amount, 40% of that is produced from food retailers and restuarants. It is one area, where efficiency could be hugely improved. It would be a dream come true if there was a city-wide program where retailers and restaurants could post blemished produce, and other food for foodbanks and groups in need to come and pick up. By creating this app, retailers and restaurants would be able to track their waste, keep track of donations for tax purposes, and more than anything not have food go to waste! On the flip side, food banks, have more available resources to utilize extra food before it goes to waste and provide a greater selection for their customers.
  1. Market Research: Outline the key insights from your research, including:

    • your application’s competition - what alternatives are already out there (competing apps and/or non-app solutions)

    • research from users on why these alternatives do not effectively address the problem.

    • differentiation: what makes your idea/product different

    • Waste No Food (San Francisco)

    • FoodCloud (Ireland and the UK)

    • Foood for All (Boston and NY) -> at the 11th hour, restaurants sell food at cheaper cost

    • Food LifeLine -> Seattle business who picks up food from supermarkets and delivers to foodbanks.

  2. User Personas: A summary of your main target user group(s). What are their key characteristics? How do those characteristics factor into project/app/idea?

    • Producer - All Supermarkets and restaurants.
    • Customer - Nonprofits or food banks.
  3. Trello Board:

I'd love to see a photo of your wireframes, it's totally OK if they're a bit blurry! Also, before I approve this I need to see some user stories laid out in this document. Tech stack looks good!
