I'm on "DSM 7.3.2-86009 Update 4", and a truncated version of this script still works:

I'm not suggesting this shorter version is better. Some time in the past, I took the "then-current" suggestion and turned it into this, a script that lives in /usr/local/etc/rc.d/ and has been working ever since. The last time I edited the file was mid-2022, and through several DSM updates and it still works. Both this set of regexes and the current-gist work equally well, so I don't know what else could be affecting other users.
