2002 Manchester games, building that couldm't be kncked down were covered in plastic sheeting to hide them. Glasgow took a different approach, if you can't demolish it, make it look nice.

  1. Strathclyde Wonderwall

Artists: Art Pistol with Rogue-One, Ejek | Year: 2014 Why: Celebrate 50 years of being a Uni plus 2014 games

The “Wonderwall” celebrates the people of the University of Strathclyde and their many significant achievements. Almost 200 metres long from start to finish and incorporating three 7- storey gables the project was completed by Art Pistol with Rogue-One and Ejek.

We also see the Dansken equatorial telescope featured, which was once used to teach nautical astronomy. And the Land-Ship was a mock up navigation bridge on the roof of the School of Navigation in the Royal College, used to teach the principles of compass adjustment.

  • George Street: Lady who created the Daleks, Verity Lambert, is depicated (Honorary degree)
  • Dansken equatorial telescope: Hosted in the 1920s at the uni. Top half is part of their space engineering research lab
  • Land-ship: Recreation of a 1913 photograph. Nautircal collage, it rotated with a Kelvin compass on top for practicing
  • Student: Photo, updated with current day students from around the world

  1. St Enoch

Artists: Smug (Austrialian, previously known for high octane graffiti, only uses spray cans, first ever commision was in Glasgow) | Year: 2018 Why: Brought back after the success of his other work

Smug has created another fantastic piece of work to complement the mature image of a modern day St Mungo on High St. The mural is a contemporary interpretation of the city's founding story; St Thenue/Enoch cradling her beloved St Kentigern/Mungo. Smug has managed to capture a level of tenderness and detail which epitomises his style.

  • Created with a cherry picker. His support around the stigma of breast feeding older children
  • St Enoch was a princess near Glasgow who had a baby with the son of the King of Lotian while he was married. She was thrown off a hill and took refuge in a monestary where Mungo was brought up.
  1. St Mungo

Artists: Smug | Year: 2016

At 25, Mungo began his missionary work on the banks of the River Clyde, near where he built his church which forms part of the Glasgow Cathedral.

In his early years, St Mungo is said to have restored life to the pet robin of St Serf - featured in the mural - which had had rocks thrown at it by some of his classmates in Culross.

  • Graphic novel pop art style
  • Couple run a gallery called Recoat. Came out of skateboard culture in Kelvingrove skate park

Artists: Rogue-One, Art Pistol | Year: 2017

  • commemoration of Billy Connolly’s 75th birthday BBC Scotland commissioned three portraits of the comedian by top Scottish artists
  • Based on John Byrne’s “Billy Connolly”. (married Tilda Swinton and had twins - divorced and moved to Nairn)
  • Billy Connolly: Portrait of a Lifetime and are now on display in the People’s Palace.

  • Trying to get high detail into street art
  • Originally from Ayrshire, lives in Glasgow now. Not a graffit or street artist (he's never done it) - artist

  • Rachel is part performer and filmmaker dressed him up to reference his jokes

  1. Charles Rennie Mackintosh & The Clutha

Artists: Rogue and Art Pistol | Year: 2020 (Mackintosh is 2018) Why: Radisson RED Hotel paid for it to mark his 150th birthday

  • celebrating a variety of personalities who visited this iconic location. Original had Billy Connolly, Frank Zappa and John Martyn. But got damaged by weather.
  • New one is tribute to the NHS, painted during Covid
  • Art Pistol is a creative. They are doing climate change murals in late 2021
  1. Tiger Mural

Artists: Klingatron | Year: 2017

  • defaced in 2019 and redone in 2020
  • Replaced an original one which had a tiger chasing a ball

  • reproduction of the Jack Vettriano and BC's 1994 tour of Scotland.

  • Lady Alba from Indy ref videos with Duke Wellington
  • Conzo is a sign-painter and has a store on West Regent Street. He looks like Billy Bob Thornton with Michael Hayes accent and attitude.
