Privacy Policy for Immersive Reader
Privacy Policy for Immersive Reader
Last Updated: September 16, 2025
Thank you for using Immersive Reader ("the Extension"). This Privacy Policy is intended to help you understand what information the Extension collects, how it uses it, and what your rights are.
This Extension is designed with user privacy as a top priority.
1. Information We Collect
**We do not collect any personally identifiable information (PII).**
The Extension's functionality does not require the collection of any personal data such as your name, email address, or browsing history.
The only data the Extension handles is related to its settings, which are stored locally on your device and synced to your Google account using the `chrome.storage.sync` API. This data includes:
**User-selected preferences:** Theme (e.g., light, dark), font style, font size, content width, and line height.
This information is used solely to provide a consistent user experience across your devices and is **not** transmitted to our servers or any third-party services.
2. Permissions Required
The Extension requests the minimum permissions necessary to function:
**`activeTab`**: This permission is used to access the content of the current web page **only when you click the extension icon**. It allows the Extension to extract the article content for the reader view. It does not grant access to your browsing history or data on other tabs.
**`scripting`**: This permission is required to inject the necessary code into the web page to create the reader view. This is essential for the core functionality of the Extension.
**`storage`**: This permission is used to save your settings (as described in Section 1) locally and sync them across your devices.
3. Data Security
We are committed to ensuring that your information is secure. Since we do not collect or store your personal data, the risk of a data breach related to your personal information from our end is eliminated. The settings data stored via the `chrome.storage.sync` API is protected by your Google account's security.
4. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new Privacy Policy on this page. You are advised to review this Privacy Policy periodically for any changes.
