| Privacy Policy - Bookmark Manager | |
| Effective Date: September 18, 2025 | |
| Thank you for using "Bookmark Manager" (hereinafter referred to as "the Extension"). We take your privacy very seriously. This Privacy Policy is intended to explain how the Extension accesses, processes, and stores your information. | |
| Our core principle is: **Your data belongs to you**. All data processing is done locally on your computer. We do not collect, store, or transmit any of your personally identifiable information to any remote servers. | |
| 1. Information We Access | |
| To perform its core functions, the Extension needs to access the following information: | |
| **Browser Bookmark Data:** | |
| **Purpose of Access:** This is the core of the Extension. We need to read your bookmarks via the standard API provided by Chrome (`chrome.bookmarks`) to provide you with features such as displaying, searching, sorting, cleaning duplicates, and scanning for broken links. Deletion operations are only performed upon your explicit confirmation. | |
| **Storage Method:** Your bookmark data is managed entirely by your browser. | |
| **Locally Stored Extension Data:** | |
| **Purpose of Access:** To improve performance and responsiveness, the Extension uses Chrome's local storage API (`chrome.storage.local`) to create a copy of your bookmark data on your computer. This allows for fast loading every time the Extension is opened, without needing to re-read all bookmarks from the browser. Additionally, your preferences and the results of broken link scans are also stored here. | |
| **Storage Method:** All this data is securely stored within the Chrome extension storage area on your local computer and will never be uploaded. | |
| 2. How We Use Your Information | |
| We only use the information you authorize us to access in the following scenarios, and all operations are performed locally on your device: | |
| **Display and Management:** Reading your bookmarks to display, search, and sort them within the Extension's interface. | |
| **Health Check:** Analyzing your bookmark URLs to find duplicates and sending network requests to these URLs to check their validity (the "Broken Link Scanner" feature). This network request does not contain any personal information. | |
| **Data Sync and Backup:** Syncing your bookmark data to local storage for performance improvement and allowing you to create your own data backup file via the "Export" feature. | |
| 3. Permissions We Request and Their Purpose | |
| The Extension requests the following permissions in its `manifest.json` file, and their use is strictly limited to core functionalities: | |
| **`bookmarks`:** To read and modify your bookmarks. This is fundamental to all management features. | |
| **`storage`:** To store the Extension's settings and a copy of your data on your local computer to enhance performance. | |
| **`alarms`:** To create scheduled tasks, such as periodically and automatically scanning for broken links in the background, to maintain the health of the bookmark library without interrupting the user. | |
| **`host_permissions: ["<all_urls>"]`:** This permission is used **exclusively** for the "Broken Link Scanner" feature. To determine if a bookmark's URL is still valid, the Extension needs to be able to send a network probe request to any website. We solemnly swear that we will never use this permission to read, modify, or intercept the content of any page. | |
| 4. Information Sharing and Disclosure | |
| **We do not share or sell any of your data with any third parties, because we never collect it.** | |
| 5. Data Security | |
| All your data is stored on your local computer, and its security is protected by the security mechanisms of your operating system and the Google Chrome browser. The Extension does not introduce any additional security risks. | |
| 6. Changes to This Policy | |
| We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make significant changes, we will notify you by updating the extension or through the description in the Chrome Web Store. We recommend that you review this policy periodically for the latest information. | |
