Email to send to PHPWorld WordPress tutorial attendees.

Hi!

You're receiving this email because you are currently enrolled in the Best Practices for WordPress Plugin Development Workshop for PHPWorld 2015. The workshop will be hands-on. As such, you'll need a laptop with an editor or IDE available, and a working Git installation.

To avoid us all losing time at the start of the workshop getting everyone set-up and running the risk of conference wifi issues, I'd kindly like to ask you to set up a working local install of WordPress on your laptop if you haven't got one already.

Install WordPress using Vagrant:

You can install a Wordpress environment using Vagrant. To do so, follow the instructions here: https://github.com/Varying-Vagrant-Vagrants/VVV#the-first-vagrant-up.

Once you have the prerequisites in place, make sure you perform a vagrant up BEFORE coming to the conference, so that you do not need to depend on venue WiFi to download VM images and other dependencies!

Once you're up and running, clone the Tutorial auto-site: https://github.com/jrfnl/wordpress-plugins-tutorial and follow the instructions in the Readme.MD file to get the site up & running.

[Optional] I'd also like to suggest you install the WP Reference auto site: https://github.com/keesiemeijer/wp-reference so you'll have a reference at your fingertips independently of the conference wifi.

Altenative ways of installing WordPress locally:

If you are uncomfortable using Vagrant, there are alternative ways to install WP locally. Instructions on how to do so can be found here: https://codex.wordpress.org/Installing_WordPress#Installing_WordPress_on_your_own_Computer

Once you're up and running, download this plugins file: https://adviesen.stackstorage.com/index.php/s/ZGJnEB9ClPqjS5L, unzip it and copy the content over into your wp-content/plugins directory to get a similar setup as the Vagrant site provides.

If you'd like to work on your own plugin(s) during the workshop, make sure you git clone these into the wp-tutorial/wp-content/plugins directory as well.

If you run into trouble getting set up, feel free to reach out before the conference and I will try to help you if I can.

I look forward to meeting you on Tuesday.

Smile, Juliette
