Cold brew is great! It takes longer to make than normal coffee, but it's much smoother tasting. Try it without cream and you'll see what I mean.
I make double batches of the recipe from Smitten Kitchen, and I let it sit for 12 to 24 hours.
- 2/3 cup ground coffee 3 cups water
Every morning I start a batch in a quart jar. The next day I strain it, pour it over ice, and drink it. Then I start a new batch for the next day. I probably should do two jars at once so I only have to brew every other day, but that would take too much foresight ;)
I filter the coffee once through a large mesh strainer, then again though a tea strainer.
I tried using a paper coffee filter, but it clogged instantly and ended up being a huge mess. Another option is to make/put the cold brew in a french press, then use the press to filter the coffee.
Also, I started out grinding whole bean every day, but 2/3 cup is kind of a lot to grind at one time. Now I buy ground coffee, which is way easier and seems to taste just as good.
If you want to get really fancy, feeze some of the cold brew into ice cubes and use those as your ice the next day.
