GitHub Game Off 2020

Thanks for spreading the Game Off love ❤️

We're going to announce the secret theme on Sunday Nov 1st at exactly 13:37 PT.

What is Game Off?

Game Off is GitHub's annual game jam (hackathon for creating games). Participants are given the entire month of November to build a game based on a theme–individually or as a team. It encourages collaborative game development and promotes the use and sharing of open source software.

Fun facts:

  • Previous year's themes were Leaps and Bounds, Hybrid, Throwback
  • Games created using almost every game engine (Unreal Engine, Unity, Godot, Phaser, and more)
  • Games created with almost every popular programming language
  • Lots of retro games submitted - games for the NES and Commoddore 64!
  • The use of open source code and freely availably assets is encouraged, but it is not a strict requirement
  • No prizes; participants do it for the kudos
  • Great excuse to learn about game development and build your first game
