Pairin

  • Take the Pairin survey.
  • Read this post and watch this video
  • Respond to the following questions in a reflection (4-6 sentences):
  1. What is your greatest strength and how do you know? I believe that my greatest strength is my ability is my positivity and enthusiasm, my supportive and encouraging nature. Throughout college I played volleyball for the CU Club team. I never thought of myself as the best volleyball player on the team although I worked hard at it, but I worked to be the best teammate. Currently, I workout at a gym called Bella Strength in Boulder and while I love to lift and love to push myself I also love the community of members and giving them praise and encouraging them. Professionally, as a manager this strength also came in handy. I was able to set clear performance expectations and then work to get my team to function at that high level. Within my Pairin survey my strongest category is “Professional”.
  • Top Thinking Style: Cooperative-Practical: "I process in a straightforward, sincere and supportive manner. I am relational, optimistic and often content with my roles. I focus on the issues at hand and value broad, general guidelines."
  • Strongest Driver: Ace Acheiver: "Let me accomplish something difficult. Let me invent, build and stretch for success. To me, impossible means 'I'm possible!'"
  • Top EQ Competency: People Developer: "I accept and respect others while supporting their development toward full potential."
  • Hightest Virtue Class: Lover of Justice: "I have a strong sense of fairness and equality for all. I am eager to organize, promote and participate in healthy community life."
  1. How do you work best? I work best individually and then from there within small teams. I am an introvert so time solo is important for me both in terms of energy and in terms of processing. From there I like to be able to discuss problems with others encountering the same challenges. I like to be able to take breaks and move around for a bit. I like solving new problems and getting better at problems I have solved before in the past. I always appreciate clear performance expectations.
  2. What is your greatest area of improvement? I think my greatest area for improvement is my sensitivity. I am a feeler and in addition to that I do not have the thickest skin. I give 100% of myself and at times don’t get jokes. Therefore people can say things that hurt my feelings even if they are 1) a joke or 2) not meant as a slight. I take things personally and care a ton. Sometimes that gets in my way.
  3. How do you hope to maximize your strengths for your new career in software development? I will seek roles that require teamwork and leadership to maximize my strengths. I am so looking forward to entering a whole new arena in my professional career. I am so excited for the new doors this journey will open. I need to build my tolerance to failure and play the long game. I am looking forward to working on a development team. I am looking forward to working on interesting, novel problems. I am looking forward to in the future eventually leading teams. I look forward to supporting a business vision that I believe in. I hope to take my strengths, build on my skills, address my areas of improvement, and succeed in a technology-based career.
  4. How might knowing about your strengths and working preferences benefit you as a software developer? Knowing about ones strengths and working preferences benefits leads to overall better decision making. While self-awareness is not always the most comfortable things to work on it benefits both the individual as well as those who surround the individual. Specifically, as a software developer I think that having more insight into my strengths and working preferences will help me to find an organization and a role following Turing that fits my goals and my values. It will make it easier and less costly to find a role that “fits”. Additionally, this level of self awareness will help me to identify and improve on the areas of my self that need examination and improvement. It will make me a better teammate, a better employee, and a better developer.
