Greetings and Welcome Explorer,

I am glad that you found your way here. You deserve better than another routine day of drudgery aboard the Stellar Patrol Ship Feinstein. I think we want to work with you.

Detroit Labs is in the business of creating mobile apps. We do this by inviting the best and most interesting people to join our team, and asking them to solve the hard problems that go along with building and shipping software. Since you are reading this, you may be one of those people. I hope so!

Right now Detroit Labs is headquartered in downtown Detroit in the beautifully renovated Madison Theatre building, which is this pretty thing:

M@dison Building

Some people have written some nice things about us, like this:

and this:

Our team members are artists, musicians, podcasters, improvisers, super marathon runners, official college basketball boosters, published authors, speakers at this conference and many others - and more. I mean, there's a lot of greatness here. And forget about the traditional structures and order taking; we're all cooks making delicious meals and we pride ourselves on a self-organizing, flat, problem solving group. You can get a feel for us here:

There's a lot of great stuff going on at the Labs. We think up, design, build, and launch high falutin' mobile apps for our clients. We believe in personal development and pushing our boundaries. We spend a day a week hacking on projects and distractions that bring us joy. And we invest significant amounts of money and time back into Lab Time, our internal product development workshop, with the intent of building our own success stories. You can check one of our favorite Lab Time projects out right here:

Sound amazing? I think it is. But being a great software developer, designer, or tester is just the beginning. We have a multi-part interview process that everyone goes through, and everyone in the company takes part in. Because you got here, step one for you is easy. Send me an email at:

explorers-club@detroitlabs.com

and let me know how you found us, what you are doing now, a story or two about things you know how to do, and most importantly what you'd like to be doing. If you've never built mobile apps before, that's ok. Just let me know what you've done that would show me why learning mobile wouldn't be a big deal. Don't worry about sending a resume, we don't ask for them. There's another creative writing assignment we prefer you to do. We'll talk about that later.

By the way - if you are reading this at CodeMash, swing by the Detroit Labs booth and say hi (or drop me a note at @ndh313). I've got a handmade gift just for you.

Talk to you soon,

Nathan and the Detroit Labs team
