From October 2026 onward, payments would be focused on new and reduced set of invulnerable collators. It was the intent that the reduced set of collators would be in-place sooner however the process the process took longer than expected and is nearing completion. At the end we anticipate that from October 20226, we'll only fund 30 community-funded invulnerables at $250 per collator per month.
Until the updated assignments are fully implemented, the payment script will recognise the existing invulnerables and ensure that eligible operators continue to receive payment pro-rata.
The original proposal used a reference conversion rate of $2.932 per KSM.
Recent July–September reference prices indicate an average of approximately $3.48/KSM.
The improvement in the KSM/USD exchange rate reduces the amount of KSM required to meet a given USD-denominated payment obligation when compared with the assumptions used in the original proposal.
For example, the original monthly collator allocation of $7,500 required approximately:
$7,500 / $2.932 = 2,557.98 KSM
At an indicative rate of $3.48/KSM, the same USD obligation would require approximately:
$7,500 / $3.48 = 2,155.17 KSM
This improved exchange rate provides additional flexibility while the updated invulnerable assignments and associated on-chain changes are completed.
All other terms of the original proposal, including the $250 monthly payment per eligible invulnerable, remain unchanged.
