Find out what you're good at and use it to push forward the community
Open source is a space for innovation
Innovations requires experimentation

Find your "dream team" and stick with them
- Work with people you trust and want you to succeed
- Burnout: didn't see it as burning out, saw it as failing

- OSS demands a high degree of selflessness
- Making things for yourself matters a lot

It's best to wear the mentor and mentee hats simultaneously
Being emphathetic and collaborative will get you results far more than being demanding will
If you can't find it, make it or be it.
- sometimes it shouldn't exist; "that's a different talk, though"
The process is just as important as the end result
Don't just share code. Share knowledge.
- knowledge about "why" something existed, just "what"
- it's easy to put code online; it's hard to explain why THAT code

Software is temporary. Community is forever.
- we're not that old, so it's hard to prove
- we'll innovate out of the technology, but we'll never innovate out of the people
