I know that's not quite related to this script, but I was curious if you have to have MongoDB database to save any of the stats? If my choice for the storage type is "Jenkins Local", how do I access the database?

There is no way to get stats if you use local storage because this doesn't stats. You MUST configure mongodb backend in order to enable this functionality.
