Privacy Policy for TunedBookmark

Overview

TunedBookmark is a Chrome browser extension that helps you organize bookmarks using AI-powered categorization. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our data practices.

Data We Collect

Data Processed Locally (Never Leaves Your Device)

• Bookmark data: Your bookmark titles, URLs, and folder structure are processed locally in your browser
• Extension settings: Your preferences (root folder, domain subfolder settings) are stored locally using Chrome's storage API

Data Sent to External Services

1. Google Gemini AI (for categorization)

When you bookmark a webpage, we send:

• The URL only - to determine the appropriate category

We do NOT send:

• Page content
• Your browsing history
• Personal information
• Bookmark titles

2. Firebase/Firestore (for category caching)

To improve performance and reduce API calls, we maintain an anonymous cache:

• Domain names (e.g., "github.com") and their categories (e.g., "Technology/Development")
• This cache is shared across all users to speed up categorization
• No personal information or user identifiers are stored

Data We Do NOT Collect

• Personal information (name, email, address)
• Browsing history
• Cookies or tracking data
• User accounts or login information
• Analytics or usage statistics
• IP addresses

How We Use Data

1. URL Processing: URLs are sent to Google Gemini AI solely to determine bookmark categories
2. Category Caching: Domain-category mappings are cached in Firebase to provide faster results for commonly bookmarked websites
3. Local Storage: Your settings and preferences are stored locally on your device

Data Sharing

We do not sell, trade, or transfer your data to third parties.

Data is only shared with:

• Google Gemini AI: For categorization (URLs only)
• Google Firebase: For anonymous category caching

Both services are operated by Google and are subject to Google's Privacy Policy.

Data Retention

• Local data: Stored until you uninstall the extension or clear browser data
• Cached categories: Stored indefinitely in Firebase to benefit all users

Your Rights

You can:

• Uninstall the extension at any time to stop all data processing
• Clear local data through Chrome's extension settings
• Disable domain subfolders in extension settings to minimize processing

Security

• All communication with external services uses HTTPS encryption
• No sensitive personal data is collected or transmitted
• The extension requires only necessary permissions (bookmarks, tabs, storage)
