Hello current/previous OPW mentors,

The time is upon us to prepare for the next internship round, running May 25 to August 25, 2015.

Lukas has skillfully secured funding for three interns. Additional spots may be funded by individual teams. The cost per intern for the next term is $6,500.

If you would like your project to be part of the next round, please add some information to our landing page:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Outreachy/2015/May_to_August

For an idea of what to include on the page, take a look at the pages for previous rounds, listed here: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Outreachy

Also take a look at information on the Outreachy site: https://wiki.gnome.org/Outreachy/Admin/GettingStarted https://wiki.gnome.org/Outreachy/Admin/InfoForMentors

Be sure to include:

  • specific information about the project and how to contribute
  • specific information about the scope of work to be completed during the internship
  • tasks appropriate for applicants to do during the application period
  • contact info

All of this needs to be done fairly quickly as Outreachy will publicise participating projects on 3 March.

Let me know if you have any questions.

-Christie

p.s. "OPW" or "Outreach Program for Women" is now called "Outreachy."

Hi folks,

I know many of you are working on your landing pages. Once you have your landing page ready or even semi-ready, please send a link to it along with a description to outreachy-admins@gnome.org . More on creating landing pages is at https://wiki.gnome.org/Outreachy/Admin/GettingStarted#For_Coordinators

It seems that we should wait a few days to get more organizations listed before we do a promotional push for the program. However, if your organization is ready to work with prospective applicants, please feel free to start advertising it.

If you are planning to be a coordinator or mentor in the new round, or simply would like to continue participating in the Outreachy community, please send subscription requests to https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/outreachy-list and https://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/outreachy-announce-list , as we will be shifting communications to these lists for the new round.

Thanks, Marina

Dear coordinators and mentors,

Thank you for being a part of our outreach program! Apologies for a short lead-up for the upcoming round - this was related to us getting Outreachy announced and we will try to have the resources ready more in advance in future rounds. We would like to promote the initial list of participating organizations on February 17, so please try to update your landing page and let us know by then if you will participate. We'll continue adding organizations through March 3 to allow more organizations to secure the funding and set up their landing pages.

The updated resources are:

Google Summer of Code (GSoC) - http://www.google-melange.com/gsoc/homepage/google/gsoc2015 - the applications for organizations to participate in GSoC opened today and will close at 7pm UTC on Friday, February 20. I highly encourage organizations to apply for this program as it's a great opportunity to engage students with your project and is generously sponsored by Google. Please note that GSoC deadlines are set in stone and be sure to work with participants and mentors to get things done by these deadlines as your organization participates in GSoC. Outreachy was created in response to low participation of women in GSoC, and we encourage women who are students and coders to apply for both programs if the organization they are interested in is participating in both. The dates for this round of Outreachy are intentionally set to be similar to GSoC dates. Outreachy application deadline is a couple days earlier to make sure that applicants eligible for GSoC don't miss the GSoC d eadline.

Please contact Karen, Sarah, and myself at outreachy-admins@gnome.org alias if you have any questions. We hope you can join in for this round!

Thanks, Marina
