A short primer on how to play Flesh and Blood (WIP)

Flesh and Blood

Flesh and Blood is a competitive CCG where two heroes face off in a fight to the death. Each player starts the game with their hero, weapon, and equipment set in play. The battle is fought through the strategic use of resources, knowing when to defend, and when to go in for the kill.

Start of Game Procedure

  1. Put Young Hero & Weapon(s) face up onto the Arena.
  2. Put any chosen Equipment face down onto their slot(s).
  3. Shuffle main deck, then reveal equipment.
  4. Randomly decide first player then draw up to Intellect.

Action Phase

There is also a Start and End phase, but for this primer, you'll be focused here.

  1. Start with 1 action point, used to play action cards and/or action abilities.
  2. Generate resource points by pitching a card.
    • You can only pitch a card to pay a resource cost (not for the hell of it).
    • At end of turn you reorder all pitched cards to bottom of your deck.
  3. Go Ahead does not stack. You will start with 1 action point when you go again.

How to Attack & Defend

Regular actions and attack reactions can be played, used to defend, and pitched.

Defense reactions can only be played and pitched, where playing them is using them during the defense reaction step to defend against an attack.

Your Arsenal cannot be "used to defend" or "pitched", only "played"

  1. Put the Attack Action on the Combat Chain.
  2. Your opponent may defend with as 1+ cards simultaneously declared as defending and put on the CC.
  3. Attack Reactions can now be played on the CC.

Zones

  • Pitch - pitch here and at end of every turn you order them to bottom of deck.
  • Graveyard - destroyed and discarded cards go here.
  • Arsenal - at end of your turn, you may slot 1 card here face down from your hand.
  • Banished - only an effect allows cards to end up here.

"Misc Dump"

  • Can play an Instant when you have priority. Priority is given whenever you have a chance to respond.
    • Cannot play Instant while an effect is resolving.
  • To underpitch is to pitch more than necessary, to maybe remove a dead card in your hand.
  • A Hero has a Name, Type, Intellect, and Life, and can optionally be Young
    • The upper "stripe" is symbolic of its pitch value: Red: 1, Yellow: 2, Blue: 3
  • Other cards have a Name, Cost, Pitch Value, Type, Attack, and Defense
  • Dice can be used to track floating resources, communicating attack amounts, random counters, etc
