Location: pytorch/aten/src/ATen/native/quantized/cpu/kernels/QuantizedOpKernels.cpp
Line 3385: float* buffer_ptr = buffer_data + t * Bs * 2 * C + n * 2 * C;
Context:
Line 3352: Tensor buffer = at::empty({num_threads, Bs, 2 * C}, ...);
Line 3353: float* buffer_data = buffer.mutable_data_ptr<float>();
Line 3362: float* buffer_ptr = buffer_data + tid * Bs * 2 * C; ← Also vulnerable!
Line 3385: float* buffer_ptr = buffer_data + t * Bs * 2 * C + n * 2 * C; ← TARGET
Issue Analysis:
This is WORSE than previous vulnerabilities because:
1. COMPOUND MULTIPLICATIONS:
First term: t * Bs * 2 * C
- THREE chained multiplications
- Each multiplication can overflow
- Cascading failures possible
2. MULTIPLE OVERFLOW POINTS:
Second term: n * 2 * C
- TWO multiplications
- Independent overflow risk
3. ADDITION OVERFLOW:
Total: (t * Bs * 2 * C) + (n * 2 * C)
- Even if terms don't overflow individually
- Their sum might overflow
4. NO OVERFLOW CHECKING:
- No validation before any operation
- No bounds checking
- Direct pointer arithmetic with overflowed values
Comparison to Previous Vulnerabilities:
batch_norm:922 → tid * n_channel (1 multiplication)
kai_kernels:259 → thread_id * src_stride (1 multiplication)
QuantizedOp:3385 → t * Bs * 2 * C + n * 2 * C (5+ multiplications!)
Impact:
1. Memory Corruption: Invalid pointer arithmetic in quantized inference
2. Wrong Results: Incorrect mean/rstd calculations for group normalization
3. Model Failures: Corrupted neural network outputs in quantized models
4. Security: Potential exploitation in mobile/edge AI deployments
5. Silent Errors: May not crash immediately, producing wrong predictions
Context - Quantized Operations:
- Used for INT8 neural network inference
- Critical for mobile and edge devices
- Performance-optimized code (safety checks skipped)
- Affects model serving, edge AI, mobile ML apps
Attack Scenarios:
1. Malicious quantized model with extreme dimensions
2. Crafted input triggering large batch/channel counts
3. Exploitation in AI-as-a-Service platforms
4. Mobile app with malicious quantized model
Severity: CRITICAL
- Multiple overflow points (worse than previous)
- Compound multiplications (exponentially more likely)
- Direct memory access (immediate corruption)
- Affects quantized inference (widely used)
- Same pattern as already-exploited vulnerabilities
This is Vulnerability #8 Following the SAME PATTERN:
