Playerctl works good as well and has extra functionality
This script doesn't work for me, it gives me an error:
Error org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown: The name org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.spotify was not provided by any .service files
I got this on nixos; seems the nixpkg spotify does not register itself with dbus.
Is there any chance to have a "like" option to star a song?

has anybody got any success on stream record it? @EsmailELBoBDev2 ?
If anyone is in need of a Debian/Ubuntu Package, I got bored and built a .deb

@neerajvashistha im sorry dude i really not have idea what i mean there xD
EDIT: i even not use bitbucket i assume it 3rd time i click on link from bitbucket so yeah i really not have idea xD
Is there any chance to have a "like" option to star a song?
Would also love that.
@EsmailELBoBDev2 @neerajvashistha
Maybe the question would have fit better in the issues of the spotify stream recorder. But here are some things you should do in order to use it:
- Install
ffmpeg
- Install
sox
- Download the
sp
script and make it available in your$PATH
(e.g. by moving or symlinkng it to the directory~/bin
in your home directory) - Don't forget to make
sp
andstream_recorder.pl
executable
You can then use ./stream_recorder.pl --uri=…
to start the stream ripper. It should work both with an open.spotify.com-Link and with a filename of a file containing such links.
In my case, my pacrec
version was too old and didn't support --monitor-stream
but I will experiment more with it once I will have upgraded parec
.
About “staring” songs:
@cpazaras @AfroMonkey I used d-feet to inspect the dbus methods of the spotify process. There seem to be no methods for leaving a star/like.
I think the Spotify api changed recently -- the search endpoint request returns a blank value when searching a song. I added an echo statement after the curl command, and the value of $SPTFY_URI is blank. The dbus message format seems to have changed, as the get URL command no longer works either. If I have some time on the weekend, I'll take a stab at updating the script.
Spotify have changed the way their query API works and so now it requires an authentication token to lookup songs. curl -s -G --data-urlencode "q=test" https://api.spotify.com/v1/search\?type\=track
returns a { "error": { "status": 401, "message": "No token provided" } }
The new Spotify docs say the token is now required and they have also provided steps on how to get one. Fixing it locally should be pretty straightforward, but making a generic elegant solution would take a bit longer.
Here's a working solution I made for searching songs
https://github.com/BelkaDev/Mustream
Hi, any idea how to find out if spotify is currently playing or in pause state? Metatada does always return the currently active song.
Edit: I found this "solution" ... but it works https://muffinresearch.co.uk/ubuntu-lock-screen-and-pause-spotify/
@dedeibel There is a much easier solution, instead of getting the Metadata
property, there is a PlaybackStatus
property':
dbus-send --print-reply --dest=org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.spotify /org/mpris/MediaPlayer2 org.freedesktop.DBus.Properties.Get string:"org.mpris.MediaPlayer2.Player" string:'PlaybackStatus' | grep -Ev "^method" | grep -Eo '("(.*)")|(\b[0-9][a-zA-Z0-9.]*\b)' | cut -f2 -d'"'

Is nescessary edit expression for obtain TRACK number in url function
TRACK=$(sp-metadata | grep "url" | cut -d'|' -f2 | cut -d'/' -f5)
Can confirm that @jeleniste's fix works.
Is anyone else unable to get images from sp art
? Every link it returns, spits out a 404 for me.
Examples:

- https://open.spotify.com/image/ab67616d00001e0212c3d5474c709e2d336b8ee0

It appears if you replace https://open.spotify.com/image/ with https://i.scdn.co/image/ it works.

In some weird cases, the metadata function doesn't work properly. The below version of this script fixes it. Also added sixel support as an option for viewing images directly in terminal (need the proper terminal for this, mlterm is recommended and you can change your system's default for terminals to this if you want to use it alot).
Also, sp display works for me. I modified your code and added an updated url and uri function (the url one stopped working and the uri has just been implemented by me) sp search now works again thanks to Mustream (needs to also be installed, you may need to directly reference its location in your code). xclip has been replaced with xsel due to it not working for me:
