  1. Introduction

Prior Art ("we," "us," or "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how our browser extension collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our AI-powered patent search assistant. By using Prior Art, you agree to the practices described in this policy.

  1. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide

  • Account Information (optional): If you choose to login with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture
  • Analyzed Content: Technical content from web pages you analyze using our keyboard shortcuts or buttons
  • User Preferences: Your selected language for AI summaries, saved search formulas, and extension settings

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage Information: Which features you use, number of analyses performed, and types of patent searches generated
  • Technical Information: Browser type, extension version, operating system, and error logs for debugging
  • Performance Data: Response times, API latency, and feature usage patterns (aggregated, not personally identifiable)

We use the collected information to:

  • Generate Patent Search Formulas: Convert technical content into Boolean search queries for patent databases
  • Provide AI Analysis: Create summaries, extract technical features, and suggest IPC/CPC classifications
  • Maintain Your Search History: Store previously generated formulas for quick reference
  • Improve Our Service: Understand usage patterns, fix bugs, and enhance AI accuracy
  • Manage Rate Limits: Ensure fair usage across all users (30 analyses/day for free users)
  • Provide Support: Respond to your questions and troubleshoot issues
  1. Data Storage and Processing

4.1 Local Storage (Primary)

The majority of your data is stored locally in your browser:

  • Analyzed pages and generated search formulas
  • Your preferences, settings, and search history
  • Cached AI responses for offline access

4.2 Server Processing (Minimal)

When you trigger an analysis:

  • What We Send: Only extracted text content for AI processing
  • What We Don't Send: Original webpage HTML, images, or personal identifiers
  • Encryption: All data is encrypted during transmission using HTTPS

4.3 Optional Cloud Features (Logged-in Users)

If you choose to login with Google:

  • Your search history may be synchronized across devices
  • Account information is used solely for authentication
  1. Information Sharing

We share your information only in these specific circumstances:

5.1 AI Processing Partners

  • OpenRouter/Anthropic: For generating patent search formulas and technical analysis
  • OpenAI: For creating embeddings and semantic search capabilities

These services receive only the text content you choose to analyze, not your personal information.

5.2 Authentication Provider

  • Google OAuth: For optional secure sign-in functionality

5.3 Infrastructure Providers

  • Koyeb: For hosting our API servers

5.4 Legal Requirements

We may disclose information if required by law, such as in response to valid legal processes.

5.5 Business Transfers

If Prior Art is acquired or merged, your information may transfer to the new owner. We will notify you before any such transfer occurs.

We never sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties for marketing purposes.

  • Access: View all your saved searches and analyzed content
  • Delete: Remove individual searches or all your data with one click
  • Export: Download your search history and formulas
  • Opt-out: Use Prior Art without creating an account
  • Disable: Turn off specific features while keeping others active

We implement industry-standard security measures:

  • Encryption: HTTPS for all data transmission
  • Minimal Server Contact: Only essential data sent for AI processing
  • No Tracking: No cookies, pixels, or analytics tracking
  • Regular Updates: Security patches and vulnerability fixes

  • Local Data: Retained until you delete it or uninstall the extension
  • Server Processing: Temporary processing only, no long-term storage
  • Account Data (optional):
    • Active accounts: Data retained until you delete it
    • Inactive accounts: May be deleted after 12 months of inactivity
  • Rate Limit Counters: Reset daily at midnight UTC
  1. Children's Privacy

Prior Art is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If we learn we have collected data from a child under 13, we will delete it promptly.
