Shutting down draft.sx

I've decided to shut down draft.sx at the end of 2017.

While the project itself has been running smoothly, the problem I'm facing is with "hosting" user-created content. The law surrounding such content is somewhat complicated in Germany. It requires me to provide communication channels for people to notify me of content which breaks the law. It's also important for me to react to such notices in a timely manner (by removing the content), or I'd make myself liable. Even then, a damaged party could still pursue legal action against me for facilitating access to illegal content. Even if, as far as I know, their case wouldn't be good I'd still have to defend myself against those allegations. Those legal costs I'd have to cover myself.

Bottom line, it's unfortunate that shutting down draft.sx feels necessary, but since this is just a small side-project of mine I cannot invest the time and potentially money that would be necessary to run it.

Shutdown timeline

  1. 2017/12/01 - All draft.sx posts will be redirected to their respective gist, e.g.
  2. 2018/03/30 - The domain will expire and all draft.sx URLs will become inaccessible
