//The Rules:
[07:22:05 PM] <yamikuronue> T directs everyone to sit on the bleachers; once Dog drags Li back into the room, T moves to the front, clearing her throat. "Right. So. Most of you lot aren't very impressive physically -- there's a few outliers, but typically, your best chance for survival against someone who outclasses you is to hide what you are. For today's lesson, I've asked a friend to lend a hand. I've told him nothing about you; each of you are
[07:22:05 PM] <yamikuronue> going to take a turn having a chat with him. After five minutes, if he guesses your power type reasonably accurately, he gets a point. If he gets it exactly, he gets two points. If he can't guess, the students get a point. If he guesses wrong, students get two points." She wheels over a chalkboard, writing up "Home" and "Away" on the board to keep track. "Understand?"
//The Cast:
//O: Faerie, the guesser
//Gregor: Wizard, the previous victim
//Li: Native-american Coyote Shapeshifter.
//The Filibuster:
[17:23] <yamikuronue> Li meets Gregor's eyes. "True cleverness is rarer than gold."
[17:25] <Kaelas> "Gold is surprisingly abundant- most of it's value lies in it being regulated. I suppose this is you volunteering to go next and win then?" he asks dryly.
[17:29] <yamikuronue> Li smirks. "Sure, why not." He gets up, lazily walking down the bleachers, and snags a folding chair, spinning it around and crossings his arms over the back of it, meeting O's gaze. "So."
[17:31] <Kaelas> Ivy drops the spell so everyone can hear properly as she watches with amusement. Dog hefts himself partially upright, wanting to watch fake-wolf/dog properly.
[17:33] <Chaos`Red> O gave the kid a once over. "Huh...this should be fun. So, ya got a name?"
[17:35] <yamikuronue> "Nope," he says, pleasantly, with a smile and a faint British accent. "I'm one-a-them feral kids, see. My parents left me in the woods as a baby -- it was a touch choice, but they could only raise one of us twins, and sadly, thoguh I was the more handsome lad, my brother was born first, so they decided they'd raise him as a girl in order to hide his true worth. I'm told he makes a stunning woman, very famous in the
[17:35] <yamikuronue> theatre circuit. Me, I was raised by a family of squirrels what took me in. I learned all about the differences between trees -- there's your basic pine nuts, which are slightly nutty with a hint of a toasted flavor,"
[17:36] <Kaelas> Dog wuffs softly. Fake-wolf/dog yaps too much.
[17:36] <Chaos`Red> O couldn't help but chuckle. "Huh...so that's how it's gonna be?"
[17:37] <yamikuronue> Li grins faintly, keeping on. "whereas the cones, those have more of a woody texture to them, but mashed into a pulp they're actually quite lovely, particularly if you grind some juniper berries into the mash. Then there's acorns -- you have your proper sort, the oak kind, which are a good staple, almost like a nice piece of beef if you're used to it, and then there's the smaller, semi-circular acorns, which have a bit
[17:37] <yamikuronue> of a sweeter taste, a little like mutton,"
[17:39] <Kaelas> Voice pitched so T, standing closest to her, would struggle a little to hear, Ivy murmurs, "I'm kind of worried that he's been mostly accurate so far."
[17:40] <Chaos`Red> O gave the kid a bit of an odd look. "Seem a bit filled out for eating nothing but nuts."
[17:42] <yamikuronue> "Oh, don't get the wrong impression -- there's also twigs, leaves, and berries. Now, your twigs, those each are flavored a bit like the bark from the tree they come from. You've got your coniferous trees, your pine and your spruce and your firs, and then your decisuous trees, your oak ash and rowen. The pines have a more bold, earthy flavor, while the spruces are lighter, more gentle on the tastebuds. The firs, those
[17:42] <yamikuronue> are a bit spicy, but also a little bold. It depends how much sap you mix in. The sap can be a bit like molasses, you see, sweet and sticky."
[17:44] <Kaelas> "Okay, now it's mostly bs," Ivy whispers to herself thankfully. Seriously, she was really thinking about checking with Father Lelldorin to ensure Jenkins has been properly examined in regards to his diet.
[17:50] <Chaos`Red> "Quick side note, kinda surprised you're actually breathing in all of this."
[17:53] <yamikuronue> "Now, the coniferous trees, those have a bit more variety. Surprisingly, ash does not taste like ashes. Instead, it's actually a bit nutty, with a heady aroma and a slightly fruity finish. It's the most gormet of barks, coveted by squirrel culture, and cultivated often as much for its great expense as for its edibility. The currency was once based on ash leaves, with as many as a hundred acorns going for a single leaf,
[17:53] <yamikuronue> until the ask market burst in the fifties, leaving many squirrels destitute. Several leapt from the tops of their tree-top dwellings, though many were flying squirrels who had second thoughts on the way down and glided to safety. Flying squirrels, of course, are not to be confused with sugar babies, which are a sort of flying sqirrel-like creature indigenous to Australia. I was not raised in Australia, but I had
[17:53] <yamikuronue> occasion to visit there once, recently. I was there to visit my brother, who was performing in a rendition of Swan Lake at the Sidney operahouse."
[17:54] <Kaelas> Dog groans softly, then tries to bury his head under his paws.
[17:58] <Chaos`Red> "Huh, I mostly thought the place was hot. Interesting wild-life though....granted, it's more interesting now, but that's not really the point."
[18:01] <yamikuronue> "Now, he was dressed as the Swan, which is a feat in and of itself, given the crossdressing nature of the thing. But the true marvel was that he was also playing the Lake itself, in off scenes, dressed all in blue and shimmering. Oh, how it sparkled and shone in the hot lights of the stage! I swooned, and I must confess I cried a little. It put me in mind of a bedtime story my squirrel-mother used to tell me when I was
[18:01] <yamikuronue> but a wee lad. Once upon a time, she would tell me, as she tucked me into the nest with her paws, gently kissing my forehead. There was a little duckling. This duckling had soft, yellow down all over his body, but sadly, he was far too large for the nest where his siblings would play. Each day, he grew larger still, to the point where he could step on his mother, and yet still, he was only a duckling. How large would he
[18:01] <yamikuronue> grow, they asked themselves?"
[18:03] <Chaos`Red> "...well, whatever you CAN do, it's internal. Which makes the obviousness of you being very adept at lying in somewhat comical ways more apparent. Interesting to see you try, tho. Figured you'd just be one of the ones that stays silent the entire time."
[18:04] <Kaelas> That gets another slight smile from Ivy- T hadn't said that O would *only* be using their conversation to get clues. He's got a lot of senses, and she would wager less than half are physical.
[18:10] <yamikuronue> "They fretted and worried, but nevertheless, they loved their odd, too-large, clumsy son, who could barely swim at all, yet still was a duckling nonetheless. They fed him as much as his growing stomach could stand, despite the hardship it cost them to find that much food for a growing duckling, even as his yellow down began to shed---" "Time!" calls T, wincing. "Jesus, kid." Li grins, leaning back and looking at O,
[18:10] <yamikuronue> gesturing for him to have the floor back.
[18:11] <Kaelas> Dog nuzzles T's leg thankfully as Gregor rolls his eyes.
[18:12] <Chaos`Red> "Damn, figured I'd be finished by then. Not far enough to tell what you can change into, but that you're body is adapted enough to not keeping that form...figured you might be able to adapt yourself so you wouldn't need to breath, but I caught a pause here and there."
[18:14] <yamikuronue> T marks down a single tick-mark, and Li shrugs. "There was no way to block whatever magic you did, but now we know it's there. Thanks, I'll be here all week." He winks, sauntering back to his spot.
